Giving up EBAY for the year!

  • Most of the stuff I've bought off Ebay has been OK, but I'm buying in only a few categories now - vintage clothes, vintage jewellery etc. There's less chance of fakes!

But since I started using MSE forum, my level of Ebay shopping has gone down greatly. I log on here, where I would previously have had a look round on Ebay and possibly put in an impulse bid on something I really didn't need. So MSE has been saving me money in more ways than the obvious!

One thing I have noticed is that there are a hugh number of listings in virtually all categories from mainland China. How many of these are genuine eg will you ever see the goods if you buy? I know you can filter them out on a search but they are a terrible distraction
i agree with u ,also some of them are located in UK and ship from china:confused: ,you can not filter them 100%...terrible

I have bought everything from a car, make up,bedding, curtains etc.. its great for unusual t-shirts for teenage son we even bought a motorbike on ebay and concert tickets

When I first started buying it was mainly genuine individual sellers and you got genuine good deals, now it's mainly proff sellers jumping on the bandwagon trying to make an easy buck
Personally I hope they get disillusioned and it goes back to the good old days

    Be wary
    Check the feedback carefully
Check the feedback they leave for others
Check the other items they sell,do they look like a genuine seller just selling unwanted bits or does their turnover indicate buymg from car boots etc... & selling on
Check what they buy as well as what they sell
Look carefully at the background in the pictures see if the reasons for sale appear to match up with everything else
Poor photos are often for a reason !
I try to buy in my area & collect where possible as well

I have high feedback & have only been caught out twice and that was in my early transactions

Naive people will get ripped off it is not for the faint hearted
I never buy from abroad UK sellers only maybe that's why I have been lucky
"Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes."

All truth goes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Then, it is violently opposed. Finally, it is accepted as self-evident.
