Giving up EBAY for the year!

Dear Friends

After a couple of unpleasant experiences on Ebay with shoddy and damaged goods(I am exclusively a buyer) i have decided to try and avoid Ebay for a year and save some money. I find myself using sites like Amazon far more-and I have not had any problems with them at all. There are far too many cowboys on Ebay and when things go wrong one gets mired down in disputes with Paypal and chargebacks trying to get ones money back. Who needs that hassle!

Do you agree?

I'll give up Ebay when I've got a viable number of income streams established elsewhere. In the meantime it serves a purpose for me and I'm actually increasing my listings. I guess to Ebay I look like a happy satisfied customer: in fact I'm using them as it suits my purposes while necessary, and will pull the plug on thousands of listings without warning when the moment is right.

Amazon seems a much better place to shop, quicker, less hassle and stuff just arrives.

  • Thats right, Dave, Amazon is fine, as is Play.com, never a bad experience with any of them. I used Ebay a lot because it was like a giant online bootsale, and it is an interesting experience. The trouble began when i started to buy mainstream items. It is still useful for specialist interersts like books, collecting etc

    regards

I gave up on eBay nearly 2 years ago, and I haven't looked back. I do far better by selling items on playtrade and Amazon Marketplace, plus the prices seem to be better too.

Thanks for that, Zenseeker, confirmation from a seasoned seller that Ebay is not making it. I think Ebay itself is to blame for not taking policing and quality issues seriously, preferring a (cheap) laissez faire style of management.

Ebay seems to be doing the same for me as it has done for the last few years. I largely sell on Ebay and have rarely been a buyer, I actually buy more on Amazon! That said I've a steady amount of regular customers and new ones too, with a healthy turnover of stock and rarely any complaints or problem customers.

One thing I have noticed is that there are a hugh number of listings in virtually all categories from mainland China. How many of these are genuine eg will you ever see the goods if you buy? I know you can filter them out on a search but they are a terrible distraction
