Very worrying stop press news re Anglo Irish

I agree with Tazza. I have fixed rate bonds with Anglo Irish and will be leaving them until maturity ( this year and next year). Times are tough for Ireland but I feel there is enough backup via the Irish Government guarantee and membership of the Euro club to give me enough peace of mind.0

in my mind this is an irrelevant story for savers - the bank doesn't really exist - your deposits are with the Irish state now. No matter what action the police take, its irrelevant
1. arrest bank officials - who cares
2. fine the bank - just goes from one state pocket to another0 -

Good point. It's just another alarming story that is highly likely to perpetuate/accelerate any run that may be occurring on Anglo's deposits.0 -
I have just got in from work and my OH said that a man from Anglo Irish
Bank phoned just beforehand to say that they do not consider the reasons given in our letter - i.e. change of T&C's - to be a good enough reason for them to let us have our money back.
He did leave his name and telephone number if I wanted to speak to him during office hours, but I don't suppose me telephoning would do any good.
So it looks like I am stuck with this worry until November.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

Sorry that you are forced to endure staying in when you don't want to, I am actually locked in until the autumn of 2010. I am not too concerned as although I think a small risk exists, IMO it is being blown out of proportion on threads like this.0 -

Look this is not doing you any good and why worry for a further 9 months. Life is too short.
Invent something / make it up. Phone and write. I suspect that they will fold if put under pressure. They are not in business to make customers unwell.0 -
Irish voters were not unhappy to put up with fraud by politicians, bankers and businessmen in the good times............................
But now they're up to their necks in a peat bog.

Then give up worrying! And stop reading this thread .... it's mainly fed by media quotes and they are generally unreliable.
Or totally drive yourself into the ground by reading the equivalent doom threads on the housing forum / banking forum / utilities forum etc etc. There's equivalent threads on there and fired by people who appear to have no house / bank account / utility bills ..... and who's sole rationale is to create despondency.
You're far from being on your own in having significant funds in Anglo-Irish. And you're in the majority company if you relax and let your deposit run it's course. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

Absolutely agree. It's not like you are forced to read... or are you a Masochist?0
