I have a TV port in the office so that shouldn't be a issue.

    I think I'll risk it for £40 :)
Ah, that should be fine then :)

Note that the freecom unit is supplied with an adaptor so that a normal TV cable can be plugged in - if the adaptor is not on it's own in the box when supplied, you may find it already connected to the portable aerial supplied; just pull it off and use it to connect the freecom unit to a normal TV aerial lead.

The other downside of this unit is that UK teletext is not available with this unit

There's a large discussion thread on Digital Spy about this unit - some love it, some don't, but some have also found it is better when used with alternative software - check out the thread on DS for full details:

Do you have to leave your computer on or does it turn it on when time to record a programme??

Havent tried with the computer turned off. I would imagine it needs to be left on though.

  • I bought one of these last week - not explored it fully yet, but its great for timeshifting programs and pausing live tv!

I installed it using downloaded Yakumo drivers (as recommended on other forums), and use GBPVR as the PVR software as its better than the free stuff that comes with the card or that which comes with the Yakumo drivers.

You should be able to put the PC into 'hibernate' mode and the PVR software will wake it up when its ready to start recording (depending on the capabilities of the PVR software being used) - GBPVR does this (though I haven't had a chance to test it with this card yet!)

The aerial connector looks a bit fragile, but otherwise a very handy piece of kit.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
It is a decent piece of kit. The tuner is much more sensitive than my Compro DVB-T200 PCI card.

The Yakumo BDA drivers are the way to go - it makes the receiver work with any BDA compatible software including GBPVR, Meedio, XP MCE, WebScheduler (I use WebScheduler for my recordings) etc.

Works out slightly cheaper through scan if you are a hexus.net member because you get free postage :)
