  • I shan't be sharing a Valentine's Day meal with someone special this year, but if I were....I'd make duck confit in the slow cooker (in advance). It is yummy and duck legs aren't very expensive. £2.75 for 2 in Asda last time I had them. You can make the duck confit days or weeks in advance and then just reheat in the oven on the night, using a bit of the duck fat to saute some potatoes in. I'd serve with green veg. I used a Barney Desmazery recipe which was in an online newspaper, I think. Adapted it for slow cooker usage. My favourite make-ahead dessert recipe is sticky toffee pudding, which you can make 3 days before, and you don't even need to refrigerate it!! Now that tells you how much sugar's in there! ;-) I use Angela Nilsson's Ultimate recipe, which may be on bbcgoodfood.com and is ammmaaaazing. So easy too. Hope that helps! :)

    Hiya

I was wondering if anyone would help me with some ideas, as this year we have decided to spend Valebtines Day indoors and im Intending on cooking a 3 course meal. I am pretty good in the kitchen if i do say so myself :rotfl:however for some reason im completely stuck on what to cook, neither of us are fussy eaters and theres nothing we cant eat. So what im asking is what are you all having and is there any recipes that will wow without costing a fortune.

    Thanks

Hi - Im doing tapas for valentins - I bought a little tapas cook book the other day and thought it would be a nice change - i can post a few of the recipes if you are interested? if so tell me what kind of things u fancy....
  • I think the best valentines dinner I ever saw (on tv) was river cottage.

    Stinging nettle soup with oysters

    Paprikash (heart and tongue stew)

    Heart shaped creme brulee.

I may be confusing the courses somewhat but I like the idea of the stinging nettle soup with a heart crouton and an oyster.

Also Nigella did a good valentine's dessert in her Feast book - molten chocolate babycakes!

    Hi Pretz,

There's a current thread on valentines meals that should give you some inspiration so I've added your thread to it to keep the ideas together.

Our Valentines meal is going to be Roast Pork (freedom food belly pork) with all the trimmings and then an crumble for afters. I've worked this out to less than £10 for the both of us, with leftovers for the Sunday.

We like to cook for each other. The first year we were together I made schnitzel and chips, followed by brownies. Last year we'd just moved into our first place together and had a picnic on the floor, this year we're going for a roast (I'll be doing the crumble).
