As someone said somewhere else, you could open a landmine factory. That'd create jobs too.

I don't understand how a government who have signed us up for massive CO2 reductions by 2050 can also promote more air travel.

Neither can I tom and this "hub" statement is really trying to grate.

Who are they trying to kid. Charles de gaulle and Shcipol are "hubs" because they are connecting airports for destinations that there is not the demand for in the UK.

ever since spam emails were invented im getting 20+ emails a day telling me about flights that are bargains as no one wants to fly on them. Airlines going to the wall. Prove to me there is legitimate demand for all these flights ( and no it cant be classed as demand if airlines have to flog off flights for 1p)

There is an end date to all these flights, and having so many jobs so dependent on an environmentally dwindling resource seems mental to me.

Heathrow is a terrible location, eqully as terrible as gatwick for northerners.

my parents live under the manchester flight path, always have done really. If my parents had to move to expand an airport they would be literally devastated.

Another crap idea from Clown. chuck this in the same junk idea corner with everything else hes responsible for in the last 12 motnhs.

Can I be a real geek and point out that Heathrow already has three runways (including the cross-wind). No? Thought not. I'll get me coat.

im opposed to it, i live in the north so it doesnt affect me directly, yes it will create jobs maybe those whos business will be demolished can get one of the jobs!!! or those whos homes will be demolished can live in the terminal like that guy on the film !!! i think its awful that people can be forced out of thier homes forced to sell to the big bullys so they can create more turmoil on the roads and more global warming!!

Heathrow is the third busiest international airport in the world and what a joke that is! From my own experience, it is a complete and utter nightmare. On every flight out of Heathrow, I have either been delayed from queuing for a take-off slot, or delayed whilst circling London waiting to land.

    START BUILDING NOW!!!

Oh, and it would be good for the economy.

I'm sure I'm not the only one on here who does a reasonable amount of travel for work, and I detest using Heathrow. The place is a nightmare, flights are delayed, they queue for half an hour to get to a runway for take-off, they stack for half an hour to get a landing slot.

Then I land at other places in the world where investment has been put into airports, and we all marvel at these fancy new airports in the far east where everything works.... and yet we complain when someone suggests upgrading Heathrow.

Some time back one of our civil engineers said to me the best solution would be a whole new airport on a reclaimed island in the Thames estuary, but given that that is highly unlikely, the 3rd runway is an absolute must. Yes, it will be hard on the people who will lose their homes, but plenty of other countries do the same thing if it's what needs to be done for the greater economic good of the country.

Oh and when the f*ck is the Dartfod crossing going to be free??? You know, like they promised it would be once it was paid for.........

I think that one is listed to be free just after the Severn bridge is made free.
  • It doesn't effect me - but I was shocked that a couple of villages will be wiped from the earth! All that history and memories - I would be livid if I was forced to sell my home.

    That's not nice at all

For the same reason that T5 was essential -LHR is a disgrace, the place is hopelessly outdated and under-resourced. It just doesn't have the capacity to function as it should.

We had a weekend in Stockholm a few years back - the flight home was shorter than LHR arrival - 30 mins hold, an aborted landing because even then we were too close to the flight in front and that hadn't cleared the runway, round again, land, taxi, wait for a gate, queue for immigration and then wait 40 minutes for baggage.

The rest of the world has moved on, if we don't want to be left behind, then we have to move forward as well
