Whenever Cameron gets a question about issues he avoids it, and then says we will look at it if he gets voted in.
But trust me it will be the same, ive seen it just a mp from the conservative party saying its not enviromentally friendly but i garantee if they get in at the next ellection this runway will still happen.

It would make far more sense to expand other regional airports (or the other London airports) as the imported goods would be far easier to transport on from the airport.
Heathrow expansion only makes any kind of sense as a passenger airport, surely?
Londons central, but not only that there are plans for other airports, i know birmingham is supposed to be expanded aswell.
Plus if you listen to what they are saying they will be reducing cars on the road as they are going to have rail networks built aswell.I am not a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as not being a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Ah yes, they are going to build rail networks as well, which will reduce cars on the road.

Sorry, but I've heard that one before - lots of times!0 -
It's Soviet mentality.
The Sov's would build one or two big factories for producing something. The West tends to build a few of them. When the one big factory fails you are screwed.
IIRC Heathrow has a problem with fog anyway. The traffic situation on the M25 has always been dicey.
Why not develop fast rail connections (like the one Heathrow has) to Stanstead or Gatwick and have that extra capacity in place, rather than putting all the eggs into one basket?
At least with three well developed airports, you stand some chance in case of emergencies and not having the system sink into chaos.
As for goods transport, I'm still waiting for trucks to be loaded onto rail wagons and transported en mass to regional hubs. If a whole bunch are entering the country at Dover and heading up North. Why are they all driving together, clogging the roads and wasting more fuel? Stick them on a ro-ro train just like Switzerland, France, America, etc.0 -

As we wont be making anything in the future as manafacturing is finished, the carbon foot print will be smaller as no big car manafacturers will be pumping out cars at there big un enviromentaly car plants.
The only way forward is to expand airports, so we can import all consumer goods and foreign manafactured goods direct into the Uk, at the cheapest price and also creating jobs so if that means having bigger runways, bring it on.
If the only work is building the airport and providing airport services and selling it all who is going to consume all this cheap imported stuff? An even more defunct model than the one we are suffring from ATM from the sounds of it. We're only worth selling to while we can afford to buy (or srvice debt to buy)0 -

I am opposed to it too, there will be hundreds of homes demolished to make way for it but hey!! who cares about that... I live close to the airport , though luckily not under any flight paths and sometimes the traffic to get into the airport is a nightmare.. unless they do something this can only get worse... I too question wether this 'supposed' rail link will ever get off the ground either... say NO TO IT..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Heathrow is the third busiest international airport in the world and what a joke that is! From my own experience, it is a complete and utter nightmare. On every flight out of Heathrow, I have either been delayed from queuing for a take-off slot, or delayed whilst circling London waiting to land.
START BUILDING NOW!!!
Oh, and it would be good for the economy.0 -
I dont think it matters whether we oppose or not,its going to happen.
The Conservatives can say what they want to get into power, its when they are there we will see their true colours.
I dont support labour, but i wont support conservative either, there both as bad has each other.
Mind you having said that the labour government could play a blinder here, if gordon brown called a ellection now, and the conservatives did win, what would they do?? the country is in turmoil, and if the conservative didnt do what they have been saying they would do it would look good for the labour party, and they would probably be back with a couple of years.I am not a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as not being a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. How about the jobs that'll be lost in land buy up in the first place? the building contracts are only temporary work, and this work generally goes to cheap overseas workers brought in for the contract. This is happening with the stupid olympic project. That's responsible for the demolishing of loads of small independent business' and clubs and music venues - replaced by big corporates and 'wembley' type venues which kids can't afford the tickets for. It's an environmental disasater, and jobs is a smoke screen.0
