MPs snouts firmly back in trough

Get me in power and I'd seize all the second homes any non-retired MPs have been given (without compensation), and sell them. With the proceeds I'd build a hall of residence where MPs present and future could have a bed for the night and a shower for the morning for when they need to come to London.
I'd also make their expenses policy correlate with the rest of the country's, charge them duty on alcohol, and ban them from "employing" family members to up their income.
And sack Harriet Harman..
Whilst you're at it could you also please investigate Lord Mandy?

No Sir Humphry on here to defend MP's thefts........i mean expensesend the tv tax0 -
Another load of highly paid useless !!!!!!£rs. Wrote to my MP a few weeks back and re-wrote to him without reply. The country and world has gone mad. Cut down the countries political gravy train costs by 60% and we'll see a decision making improvement as well. Most MP's a simply just a waste of space.
As I said on another thread, benefits/wages/etc throughout the Uk are just too high, and it's no wonder that firms are taking jobs and putting them in China, India, etc. The harsh reality is the countries in a real mess and it's going to take a big shakeout to sort this SH*T out.
Do you have any idea how much correspondence MPs receive?0 -

No wonder they have no ethics...
Yeah you're totally right. I mean, solicitors, yeah they're educated and all, and yeah they've probably worked their a*ses off as trainees working 75hrs a week, and they may very well have brilliant legal minds, but I mean, they're still !!!!!!, in fact, I hereby declare that anyone more cleverer than me is an !!!!!! idiot with no soul who deserves to be killed.0 -

Yes, I used to reply to it. They pass most of it on to Civil Servants.Any teachers want to respond to their slagging off?
Not really. I know most people who post here wouldn't last half a day with a class of cunning 11 year-olds, so it's easy to ignore derogatory comments. As with the kids, don't give 'em the reaction they want.0 -

You've misunderstood what I said .
The comment was a metaphor in relation to the UK's class sizes and teacher's pay levels.

Oh come on , they are employing (generally family members) people to contact people back who write. There is NO excuse to ignore people if they have a genuine grievance...Im sorry that argument just doesn't wash.
Whats the bloody point of them if they ignore their constituents.....?
They should be acting on our behalf FULL time and NOT carrying out there other careers.....0 -

I'm sorry; I missed your further comment and irony travels badly on the Internet.
Teachers' pay levels have never been great, but having been one for around 35 years, I can't recall many conversations about pay. It would have been different if I'd been working in the London area, I expect. Pay isn't usually the thing that makes one sign-up though, nor is it a secret.
More empowerment would certainly be welcomed, though goverments of both colours have steadily eroded teachers' independence & authority over the past 20 years or so. Their motives may have been good, unlike the results.
People shouldn't need CIVITAS to tell them that early years class sizes are crucial, but from personal experience, less than about 22 in a middle junior class can reduce dynamism. I note that the government spokesperson talked about 'adult to pupil' ratios, rather than 'teacher-pupil,' no doubt because most improvements have been made via support staff, not extra teachers.
In any event, it's all a long way from my first class of 40 nine year olds back in 1973, who were a doddle compared with some of today's stroppy so-and-sos!0 -

I think teachers have had the powers of "dicipline" taken away from them and its made there job so much harder.I don't be grudge them a decent wage etc but I don't agree with this "key worker" tag.Oh and why oh why do schools have 2 weeks off at Christmas and then on the day they should go back ,they have an "inset " day...The way its going it will be easier to give us a list of the days the school IS open instead of a list of closure days and holidays. So many bloody inset days and holidays.:rolleyes:0 -

The number of school days and the minimum hours within them are all laid down in law and there have been no changes for a long time. Inset days are not 'extra' holidays for pupils or teachers and there should be 5 each academic year.
