Where are jaguar made, they have some great looking models particularly the XK.

It's a great looking motor at a very reasonable price, considering.

Its Made in the West Midlands but IIRC when it was lauched the then owner of Jaguar (Ford) stated that by value it was 40% sterling/40% Euro and 20% Dollar sourced

Interesting thread. Not least because this recession and job losses are making us think more of home interests like never before in a long time. Go to France, and they wouldn't dream of not buying and supporting the French workforce. Yet here, we have thought only of what is cheap, and to hell with our manufacturing industry and employment. The likes of Primark have reinforced this attitude.

It reminds of a 'Buy British' campaign back in the 70's by M + S.

In hard times, perhaps people become more patriotic.

My friend has a store in Dorset an sells some very 'quintessentially' British made home wares. She subsidises them with lots of UK styled homewares made in the Far East. Impossible to trade on only UK made goods due to the prices people are prepared to pay for vertain items.

Food, I am very pro UK reared/grown produce and would choose it over imported food whenever possible.

We make own label clothing in UK, but our shop stock loads of imported stuff......and the amount of customers who think it is possible to buy a 'fairly-made' in The UK (in swishy air conditioned factory) handbag from softest leather from a lovingly reared (possibly organically reared at that) animal, in an exclusive, unique design...oh, and a tiny production run of say X 30 (so not everyone else has one) for £30 is astounding.

They pick up a synthetic bag (OK, it's hard to tell until less you sniff it) and ask the above Q's...truly.

Few people make clothes themselves now so are detached from the process and have no idea how long it takes to stitch a garment together.

Most imported from FE clothing is costed at around 10p phr labour.

A trend for Britishness in styling is creeping in strongly to tap into the mood ...but most will still be made off shore.

There are still a few manufacturers left...and in clothing, they are busy, busy at the moment (the good ones). The days of making millions of units in UK is over and I don't think we will go back to volume...just specialist, niche products.
Most of the machiary has gone to China too.

tell me about it, its a thing of beauty and i was genuinely tempted to get one but i have just blown a fortune on a bmw 740 for it only to die on me so couldnt justify the risk at this time.

Now that jaguar are making proper cars in stead of rust buckets i am certain i will eventually buy one, i looked at the xf and thought wow thats the kind of car i want.

Do they still make Caterham cars? (Not very practical for the family shop admittedly!)

I see Alan Sugar is heading a long overdue campaign with the Daily Mirror to get us to buy British............ About 20 years too late I reckon
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

I buy UK stuff as much as possible. I even get trainers made in the UK, by New Balance.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I don't like the 7 series or 5 series style in recent years, they got 'fat'. Much prefer the merecedes look (S & E Classes), saw an XF the other day parked outside, must have been visiting next door and thought that's a nice looking motor.

If I could get rid of the missues, I had a XK tommorrow, like the coupe more than convertible, think that I'd be able to haggle a good deal with current economic situation.

Both look SH*T hot though, they are perfectly styled, I like them better than all but a handful of the top supercars, which cost stacks more.

With the falling £ we will probably all buy a bit more British without thinking about it.

There'll probably be more British holidays in 2009 in spite of the recession. We still make those, I'm told ;), although I haven't bought one for around a decade.
