And worse, we would not have the new mini to focus on as a sign of the spawn of 'evil' - Foxtons...!0

A chap called Ricardo in the C19th covered this very nicely. Google, 'comparative advantage'.
A simple version is you don't want to have to drink English wine, eat Welsh bananas or holiday in Scotland all the time.0 -
It is increasingly difficult to buy British, but we do, wherever we can, try to buy locally to support our local economy, from independent retailers where possible. But, that said, we only do that if their prices are reasonable, which most times they are, or can be haggled a bit to get them closer.0

What does matter is that some of the UK car manufacturing plants are amongst the most efficient in the world.
19 of the 20 biggest component makers actually make stuff in the UK as well.
Obviously if people think we need to become "self sufficient" in raw materials like Aluminium, we are going to struggle.
The UK has traded overseas for 400+ years. Once we give that up, it really will be time to turn the lights off.
Apparently it matters to Nissan employees who are getting laid off because the Japanese company they work for is cutting back. How many Japanese Nissan employees got laid off this month?0 -

From Blooomberg - "Nissan will suspend production for 13 days in February at its Tochigi factory located northeast of Tokyo, said spokeswoman Haruko Wada. The plant makes models including the Skyline coupe and Infiniti luxury-brand vehicles. Output at Nissan’s Kyushu factory that builds sport-utility vehicles will be halted for 11 days, and 9 1/2 days for its Oppama plant that makes compact cars.
The company is in talks with its labor union to discuss wages during non-operating days, Wada said. The carmaker will also cut 500 temporary jobs between January and March. "

Without BMW they'd probably have stuck to churning out the same old models as before (reasonably popular, but deathtraps of diminishing appeal). Or, even worse, some terrible British non-BMW heap-of-junk new mini would have been born.
And UK buyers were the largest export market for BMW (this excludes Mini's). Canny those Germans selling us overpriced cars. Though without the UK market they too are suffering now. :rolleyes:0 -
Where are jaguar made, they have some great looking models particularly the XK.
It's a great looking motor at a very reasonable price, considering.

I go for what is cheapest...it's either that or go without and that goes for food too!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0
