My gf got a 10month free phone from mobileshop in November and did not port her old number at the time of ordering.

When the phone arrived I rang 02 direct to port her number. They told me I could not (they did not give me a sensible reason as why this couldn't be done), and it could only have been done when the phone was ordered.

Although I have had 2 x 02 contracts from dialaphone in the past. The first one I could not port after ordering as the billing was done through a separtate company, singlepoint, but the second contract 02 ported after ordering without problem.

So I am still no wiser as to why sometimes 02 let you port after ordering, then other times they don't.
