Ikea - not such a huge footprint so ideal for smaller rooms and so easy to keep clean
  • My kids are now 7 and 5 and still use their tripp trapp chairs. At around £100 they are quite pricey but they really do "grow with the child". Also, when we have dinner parties, they can be adjusted to a normal height for adults to use and they don't look out of place as we got them in a colourway which matches our table and "normal" chairs. Don't bother getting the cushions, having sat on a tripp trapp all evening before now, I can testify they really aren't necessary and you'll just end up getting fed up with taking them off and washing the pureed carrot out of them every other day.

The bumbo is fab too. DD had one, although she only used it for a few months. I sold it on ebay for almost as much as I paid for it. :j
I like cooking with wine......sometimes I even put it in the food!

we bought a graco contemporary high chair and we are thrilled by it... we made several useless purchases in the past and this was not one of them... the seat is very comfy for a small baby and has a five point harness.. we only use the three point harness since my baby is now big..if u look carefully for deals online u will find this cheap..we did... the beauty of this chair is that it is a low chair as well... we keep our baby in it when we sit in the living room and she quietly sits and teeths or plays.... its a great chair.... we tried the bumbo..it was good when she was 4, 5 months then she out grew it..i am not sure its a good place to start the weaning though

With my first I bought a Chicco one - padded, recline, different height position etc and paid a wopping £100 for it - used it until he was about 18 mths and then used it for my daughter. Sold it to my sister in law who is still using it now so its lasted 5 years. Was handy as sometimes ds would fall asleep in it after his meal and we could just recline it but I too had to use a tooth-pick as could not get in all the nooks to clean it properly. I also bought two cheap babies r us highchairs (£25 each I think) to keep at grandparents and they were just as good.
  • I'm about to adopt a little 2.5 year old girl and one of the things I need is a highchair; I'd like one without a tray so she can sit at the table, I'd also like to use it for a couple of years until she's big enough for the 'adult' chairs.

Have desperately been researching and found a few that seem to do the job; but desperately need the views of people you've used them. Budget is somewhat of an issue as I have a lot to get!!

    Looking at:
    Tripp Trapp
    Babydan Danchair
    Hauck Alpha

All advise greatly received! Next thing will be car seats - will go into Halfords/Mothercare for advice then see what deals I can find!

    TIA

    Shaanbles - not in a panic really!!

It's been a while since I started this thread, but just wanted to thank everyone for the advice. Our son loves his new Ikea Antlop chair and tray. It's funky, not too bulky, easy to clean and was an absoute bargain.

    Thanks everyone for the recommendation!

  • We bought a stokke Tripp trapp and my daughter is still using it age nealry 5! Especially good if you eat meals at a table as you can get them right in and get them used to eating with the rest of the family.
We also used a bumbo at the very begining and found it great too
