High chair help/recommendations

I'm looking for help or any recommendations on good high chairs please. Our son is 13 weeks old and we're looking for something that's appropriate from now-ish until he's ready for a more grown up chair. Most I've looked at seem to be from six months onwards.
It seems they're one of those things that you can pay £25 right up to £250 - with no obvious reason why! I just want a good one!
Thanks :-)

A friend of ours lent us one just like this. Its done our two and it reclines for early weaners. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Chicco-High-Chair_W0QQitemZ200296491066QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Baby_Babay_Feeding_Highchairs_Boosters_LE?hash=item200296491066&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1298%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318
No i'm not the seller, its still in use at my parents house. But my little lady was in it from 16 weeks and could have done earlier.
To be honest you don't need to buy new, we have 3 highchairs circulating in our family, here and with both parents, none new and all clean and servicable.
Good luck.0 -
i agree with Bailey thats the one i have and it is great it reclines and has a number of height settings. the seat is very padded and it is easy to clean!! my 3 year old can sit in it also with plenty of room:DWhat's for you won't go past you0

Hi, we bought the Chicco Happy Snack high chair from Mothercare: I would recommend it. My daughter's now two and it is very practical: it's easy to clean with a removable wipedown seat cover, 3 reclining positions and the food tray section can be extended in and out, which is handy as your child gets fatter (!) and nees to get in and out of the chair. It also has a section underneath that catches the odd bits of food that may fall down (although most still do end up on the floor!)
Anyway, I didn't buy this chair because of all the aforementioned features, I bought it cos it had good sturdy legs, a harness and thought it looked least likely to break! It's also on offer in Mothercare at the mo, I paid £50 for it two years ago and it's now down to £39.99, reduced from £59.99. See this link to have a look at it: http://www.mothercare.com/Chicco-Happy-Snack-highchair-scribble/dp/B001CBYMSW/sr=1-1/qid=1231970028/ref=sr_1_1/278-3526967-2979832?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n=42862041&mcb=core0 -
I'd second the crotch wedge bit, as i'm going through a stroppy stage with my 10 month old. She will force herself down the highchair only to be stopped by the crotch strap. If she was in my Chicco chair, currently at parents, then i wouldn't have this problem. I'm thinking of swapping theem back, but the one we have is a little smaller and space is premium here.0

Hi the stokke Tripp trapp is a good option, it grows with the child, we have 1 and our 3 year old still uses it now, it also sits at the table as its fully adjustable, but it is more expensive than some chairs, but it would have a good resale value.0

I love the tripp trapp chair, we have 2 which the kids used from 6 months and still use now at age 6 & 3. I love them because they allow the children to be involved at the table. I find a lot of highchairs (when I've used them at cafes or round friends) have a very large footprint with a large plastic tray which means that the child is usually sitting at a distance from the table and therefore not involved in whats going on, or the mum gets alienated from the table as well as she ends up feeding the child.
We bought the baby kit which forms a harness for the baby and allows them to sit up supported at a young age, you can use a harness to restrain them when they are a little older and then take the baby kit off when they are older. They might seem expensive but when you consider that my 6 yo is still using hers and its only in the last 6 months that she could have reasonably used a normal dining chair so I would have had to buy an interim chair/booster seat the cost isn't so great. Also they are very good for maintaining correct posture as they encourage the correct sitting postion rather than slumping!
They are easy to clean as they are just wood, there are not plastic nooks and crannys for pureed food/crumbs to fall into and got horrible and the seat covers wash and dry very quickly!
p.s. I'm not on commission, I just like these chairs!!!0 -
I have an Ikea highchair that was £11 and it is fab! Highly recommend it and at that price I'll have no qualms about throwing it away when it is no longer needed. Although it is sturdy enough that it will last us for any other children we may have:D0

I am quite evangelical about this high chair!!! When DD was born, FIL spent a fortune on a reclining, padded, high chair for her which was awful. It was a nightmare to clean with so many nooks and crannies, I had to take a toothpick to it to get the food out!!! Plus the padding tore on the seat. And because of the sloping legs because it was reclining it wouldn't get anywhere near the table so I HAD to use the tray with it!!
So when DS was born we threw that out and got the Ikea Antilop and 3+ years later he still uses it. I never bothered with a tray because it's exactly the right height for the table, and because there are no little corners and gaps for food to get stuck in, it's really easy to clean. The best £12 I've ever spent!
I don't understand why anyone needs to buy anything else!!!!
JxxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -
Do you sit at the table to eat? I know this sounds like a weird question but we dont have a table because our house is tiny. My girly is 23months and we used hand me down proper 'traditional looking' style high chairs for a small time but they are so bulky and as I said, without a table it was a bit difficult for us to eat togther - her up there and me down here! lol!
Eating out though, I've found that the IKEA cheap one is fab and so is the tripp trapp.
However, we have used a table and chair combo for most of the time which has really paid for itself over and over. I've done a clicky link below for you. It comes with a tray that attaches to the chair for younger children. The chair attaches ontop of the table (when on its side) to turn it into a high chair - plus we use the table and chair combo as normal now for eating AND other activites such as painting and drawing. Its great! Mama and Papa used to do the exact same thing for near £250 (heaven knows what the differance was!). I will say though, get the £10 chair insert cushion thing (wipe clean material and appear in sale section frequently).
Hope that helps some
