Where to go in the uk on holiday with young children?

Hello,
My cousin and I are considering taking our families on holiday together in September but have no idea where to go other than somewhere in the uk. We both have young children so ideally would like to go somewhere that has things that would entertain them. This could be as simple as lots of parks or green areas where they can just run around but we would also like to take them to some sort of farm park. The children we will have with us will be almost 3, almost 2, 9 months and 4 months.
Any ideas would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

We had a great week last year at Goodrington near Paignton - house we rented was 2 minutes walk from the beach so we could come home at lunchtime for our youngest to have a sleep, there is a steam train that runs behind the beach for the kids to watch (or ride on if you fancy a trip). The zoo in Paignton is very pleasant for a day out. Not aware of a nearby farm park but there may be one around. If you want more details feel free to PM me.
Edited to add - if you are going as two families the house we had would be a bit small but the owners had other similar houses near enough next door at the same prices.Adventure before Dementia!0 -
One of my work friends has a "log cabin" in a park in Cenarth Falls in south west wales where we (me, DH, DD (4) and DS (2)) stayed in August 2007 (although its only about 45 minutes up the road from me!). It's centrally located for all sorts of activities, we went for beach trips to New Quay and Poppit Sands (in Cardigan), Aberystwyth, Teifi Valley Railway, Pemberton's chocolate farm, a honey farm, a rainforest and butterfly centre, Cardigan Island Farm Park, etc.... You've also got Folly Farm and Oakwood Park close by. The children had a ball and I can't believe we packed so much in. And the park where the cabin was had good facilities too, including an outdoor pool where DD learned to swim!!
JxxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -

:T Blackpool! :T
Loads to do: Blackpool Tower, miles of beach, Ride on a tram, Stanley Park, Zoo, Farmer Parrs Farm/zoo @ Fleetwood. The lights will be on in September. Lovely countryside within easy reach: Beacon Fell, the Lakes, Yorkshire Dales even. (only caution the Pleasure Beach funfair too expensive for anyone)0 -

I would say with kids of those ages, a fairly short journey would be preferable.
There is so much to do in so many parts of the country that I honestly don't think you'd need to go more than a couple of miles away to have a really memorable holiday.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
We had a marvellous time in Pickering - half an hour's drive from Whitby, where there is a beach and a harbour and not much more to Scarborough and there is Flamingo Land and the North York Moors. In Pickering there is a market, a castle, a museum, a steam railway to Heartbeat country and some lovely scenery.
The way we chose it was saying - what do we like to do, how far to we want to travel, what can we afford.
I would suggest self catering/caravan at the seaside and traditionally the east coast gets less rain than the west coast.
Hope you have a wonderful time!Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -

Center Parcs is expensive but the children the OP mentioned aren't of school age. Therefore they can avoid the shcool holidays and go when it is cheap. Our children have always loved Center Parcs.
Depending on where you are in the UK Pembrokeshire is lovely and there is plenty to do. We've been a few times booking cottages through http://www.fbmholidays.co.uk/It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0
