Cutting the cost of Sky

I know there was an article on this, but I thought I'd add my experience. I realised we weren't watching all we were paying for so I rang Sky to change our package. The internet site was all about "upgrading" of course, and you couldn't change your package on line from what I could see.
Anyways, I rang, and after hassle in which they would not let me change the package until my husband, whose name is on the contract, had spoken to them, I reduced our package.
But - and this is the good bit - after the "you're a valued customer" spiel, I was offered a £12 reduction if I would keep the same package. In other words, keep everything the same but for £12 less, just because I wanted to drop to the lowest option. We still decided we didn't want it, but it might be a way to chop your rates!

How long are they giving you the reduction for, and what package were you on beforehand? I have the full package with sky +, the 12 months is up in feb, and have been thinking about haggling myself!!!!!

Haggling didn't work for us last year so we simply reduced the package anyway.

hi All
We have been given half price sky for 3 months on at least 3 consecutive occassions. Each time we have phoned to cancel they have asked us if we would like to keep sky for another 3 months on reduced i.e half price package. I have never asked them for it they always offer. i think when you call it goes through to india we state we want to cancel and then get put through to scottish call centre and they offer us the package. I used to work for sky and know that when you cancel they normally call you up shortly after that and offer some sort of " come back to us package" , found the same to be true with telewest0 -

I just finally got round to ringing sky, same thing someone in Idia i think , told her i wanted to cancel, she then put me thru to some scottish man, and he offered half price for 3 months.
We have sports package option 3 i think, we were paying £36.00 a month but now only £18 for 3 months!!!
THANKS GUYS THIS IS A GREAT HELP!!
By the way seen lots talking aboput sky +, what is it??? and would we automatically have that with the above packlage?? what can we dow ith it???
Sorry not very techie minded!!!0 -
At the end of last year, I rang up to cancel and was given 3 months half price. With a month to go I rang up again to cancel (I wouldn't have minded if I did cancel) and the best they could offer was a 25% discount for signing up for another year, thats changing to the £18 a month package, we have the older £21 a month one atm.
I said I didn't want to sign up for another year, so she offered a 40% discount for 2 months, on my existing package, I've taken that.
When I have a month to go, I think I will cancel if not given a vg deal, TV has lost the excitement for me, used to be, I'd look forward to watching something I enjoyed, now with sky they're always on! so have become a little jaded.0 -
Hi
We were originally paying the top wack package and our first call to cancel resulted in a half price drop same package.
NOW our calls go like this............
When we have called sky to cancel, they ask why we want to cancel, Our reply is always"""" We like to watch sky movies and sports but we cannot justify the £40.00 for this it was fine when it was the £20 just £40.00 is bit much .They then always try to reduce package (at moment we are on full package) but we cant reduce it as these are the main channels we watchthus they then hit us with the 3 months half price deal, hubby then asks me in his most pleading voice (always making sure operator at sky can hear) if he can keep his sky for 3 months @ xxx price .
Hubby says they only give the offer to him so often cos they can hear how henpecked he is by the wife...i.e ME
But if it works then why replace it :rotfl:0 -
Free Movie Channels
Last year via a tip on this site I received free SKY movie channels. As a SKY Sports subscriber i was told i could request free access to the movies on sky channels 302,304,306,308, & 310. I still have access to these channels and told a friend about it but when he rang Sky said that my deal must have been a one off and they no longer do it. Has anyone else had this deal and does anyone know if it is still available but under a different name?

HIya I rang sky last week and told them I was thinking of cancelling. The nice lady said because I have always paid them on time she would have a word with her manager about it.She then offered me 12 months at 34 quid instead of 44 quid.Hubby was over the moon.Wouldn't ring them himself but loves it when I get us a bargain. He who smiles rather than rages is always
