My brand new Co-op account - already a blemish!

I can't believe it.......

Beware all those of you opening a new account and transferring d/d details.
The story -

I opened my cashminder account in late Dec ready for BR. I have transferred all my d/ds over and ALL except the TV licence are starting on 1st Feb after my wages go in.

Sky said that they wanted paying as soon as my Dec bill was due on 1st Jan - the princely sum of £2.20 - either by card or cash. No problem

So I pay £14.15 into the Co-op and out of that pay £2.20 to Sky using the Electron card and leave £11.95 ready for the TV d/d.

I have logged on this afternoon to find I am £9.75 overdrawn!!!!!!!!
My statement shows that Sky have drawn the d/d on 7th Jan for £2.20, as well as me paying it.
The TV licence d/d has bounced and the bank has charged me £19.50 as well!
I have rung Sky (we have a special phone number as I am staff) and the bl**dy office is closed until tomorrow.
I have rung the Co-op and spoken to the most dreadful woman you can imagine, she was the absolute opposite of anyone I have had dealings with at the Co-op - she was rude, patronising and shouted me down every time I tried to explain the situation. She must have told me 3 times that the account would be closed if this happened twice more.
Then, and this takes the biscuit... she asks me...
"Why have you got this account, this is the most basic account and is for people that are BR and stuff like that?"
I quietly informed her that I was indeed BR as of yesterday, to which she went very quiet. I am a pretty confident, ballsy lady but she nearly had me in tears and I asked to speak to her supervisor or a manager and she refused!
She asked me "What about" "Are you complaining about me, because I have done nothing wrong" - the call went on and on but she was backpeddling like mad and her whole tone had changed - she was so defensive but still talking to me like I was 5 yrs old. She then said that as a gesture of goodwill she would refund the £19.50 (surprise, surprise) but that I would have to claim the £2.20 back from Sky as it is below the d/d indemnity limit.
The woman was nothing more than a bully and I am really angry about the whole thing. Sky for breaking the agreement and taking what wasn't theirs and then this wretched woman at the Co-op for her words and attitude.
I am actually going to write to the manager of the managed acount department now. I feel that strongly.
So be careful everyone and watch your d/d arrangements like a hawk.
Perhaps I was too organised, but that is the way I am and I had no reason to think that it would all go wrong so early on.....

Sorry to hear about that. Good idea to write to Coop as that shouldn't count as a strike against you since you clearly had the money in the bank and Sky took out a payment that wasn't due to them. Now time to turn your anger on them too. Good luck.

    :j :j

  • Sorry to read that SA. What a horrible woman!!! I would def write as I think it will get squashed - especially if you explain how she made you feel xx

  • When I first rang the Co-op to open an account I got this woman who wanted to know why I wanted the Cashminder account and when I said I was considering making myself BR,she slammed the phone down on me !
I rang back straight away and got a different person,I explained what happened when I rang the first time and she laughed !
she said she didn't know why it had happened but would gladly open an account for me and every time I have rung them since they have been extremely helpful. The only thing is you can't set up your own DDs like you can on Abbey and the Co-op forgot to send me a form to transfer them over so I am now waiting for it to come through,I explained that I had an overdraft at Abbey and didn't really want to ask them myself so they said it wasn't a problem as they can do it once I sign the form and return it.
So here's hoping I don't have any problems with them.

    max,

I work for them so it is all free except for Box Office - and that is what this was - hence it only being £2.20 for watching a blimin film!
They insist on a d/d - otherwise we don't get the service.
I have written a two page letter.... wait till Sky gets both barrels in the morning!

If you use the online banking, you can set up your DDs yourself. :)

Not on a Cashminder account you can't,you can set a standing order but not DDs,this is why I rang them last night and they said they will do it when I have signed the transfer form from Abbey.
