There have been lots of cases of cats smothering people, so all those who think it's an old wives tale think again! I agree with what spookylukey said about nice that someone isn't going to put their animal in rescue just because their pregnant, it happens so often and it's ridiculous, don't buy an animal if you are going to abandon it as soon as you get up the duff!
You really dont know what youre talking about do you??
WHere are the links for all these cases please?
And "Up the duff"? Very nicely put, Im sure!0 -
I will find some links later and post them, but I can't sit in front of the computer all day I have a life. I am sorry that you didn't like my phrasing, but I hear so many people moaning about being pregnant and their children, maybe they need to think things through before they do them!0

I've got 2 children (6 and 2) and a very old cat. I was worried a bit about my cat going into the cot etc, but she didn't go in when they were tiny. She has been known to sleep in my son's cot when he's not in it.
The other thing I would say, is that you might well not want to have your cats in your bedroom after you have had your baby. I found that (unfortunately for her) my cat went down a rung in my affections after I had my first baby. I think the maternal feelings that you may in the past have lavished on your pets tranfer to the baby automatically.
Please don't all jump on me and say that that will never happen, just my experience. My cat is sleeping happily next to me now, and is much loved, but when I had a new baby feeding from me and generally dependent on me, the small time that I did have alone, I wanted to keep for me.
My cat was pretty appalled at the noisy wet baby that we brought home, and I don't remember her doing anything other than sniffing my DD. She is very good with my kids, has put up with a lot of 'stroking' and other affections from the children, and only warns them with a hiss if they are going too far. It is hard work teaching children what they can and can't do to a pet, and they might end up with odd scratch, but my DD is very proud of her cat, and shows off about her to her friends (who are nearly all from petless homes).0 -

Good post - I love my cats very dearly but in the first few months after having my baby I could not really have cared less if they were around or not. I have since read that this is very normal as we would have protected our babies from wild animals in the cave days... you're just being a lioness mama!My cats were baffled by the baby, still are I think...

Now I have calmed down after the blatant abuse aia recieved, when I was only offering advice, I think it's time I replied. I know someone who has had this tragic thing happen to them, although I cannot go into detail as it is too upsetting. Also I am not bitter, but if you knew the amount of animals put into rescue because of the owner being pregnant or a new baby, you also would be extremely angry at thes irresponsible idiots.0
