Cats and crib - concerned

Hi Looking for some advice from fellow cat owners please! We live in a relatively small flat with 2 cats and we are concerned about keeping them out of babies crib. We are planning on having the baby in our bedroom for a few months, however our cats are so used to sleeping on our bed, it would be a real shame to shut them out (not to mention the noise they would make! Also, as our flat isn't so big, shutting them out of 1 room really limits them. The baby will have its own nursery when old enough and will keep the door shut to that. So I guess I am looking for suggestions. I know there are nets to fit cots/cot beds, but can't seem to find one to fit crib. Has anyone tried cat nets on cribs/moses basket? Any advice gratefully received as am getting more and more stressed the more I think about it!!!! Thank you so much
oh, and p.s baby not yet born, just trying to be organised!!

I suggest you start locking the cats out now before you have to. I always allowed my cat on my bed but when DH came on the scene he didn't want the cat in the room. It only took about a week and the cat came to terms with it.....
last year we got a new cat as our old one died and we had about a week again of howling until he realised that he slept in the kitchen.
good luck (and glad to see you are going to be a neurotic mum :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: and worry about things that may never happen).. just like me.

Hi
Yup, neurotic indeed!
Hoping to avoid having to lock cats out of room, we enjoy having their company as much as we will enjoy our baby's company.....!
Any more ideas about crib net and where to get one, or if anyone has tried an alternative?
thank you!0 -
Get the cats a bed and shut them out now like Joanie says. We got a brilliant bed that fits over the radiator, so no space taken up and it's lovely and warm. Our cats love it.
But trust me, that thing about babies and cats is a myth. My two didn't come near the baby - or me for that matter - for months. They were pretty petrified of this odd crying thing I brought home0 -
I never got anything to stop the cats sleeping in my little girls moses basket, they just got a firm no and then a pick up and remove to elsewhere. I never had a problem really with them sleeping in it. Her cot on the other hand
if they got into her room they'd sleep in that grrr
I guess my advice isn't what you can get to prevent it other than been persistant in training them not to0 -
I bought a cat net for £5 from Mothercare. It sits unopened in a cupboard somewhere. Seriously they are a waste of money.
I love my cats - see my avatar! but getting them out of the bedroom at night was essential. They hog my bed all day long and that is fine but nighttimes are out of bounds.0 -
My cats never bothered a new baby either, and as the baby got older it seemed to bother them more than they bothered it........ Raised 3 sprogs around cats and never had a problem. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

My cat was completely bewildered by our new baby and only ever tried to get in the moses basket when she wasn't in it. We just gave her a firm 'no' and moved her away each time it happened and that was that.
A friend of mine did try the cat nets, she told me they were a waste of time but I can't for the life of me remember why now.:o:www: :: MFi3 ::

I don't have kids, but no how you feel about letting cats stay in the bedroom....I wouldn;t have the heart to suddenly shut our cat out, we love having his company..except on a weekend morning at 5am when he wants breakfast...meow meow meow0

Thanks everyone.
I also believe its a complete myth about cats suffocating babies, but my little kitten is sooooo curious and loves a cuddle, so thought we had best be cautious. Plus mother and mother-in-law doing their very best to make me paranoid........
My ideal is that we can all share the same room without any worry, but not sure if this is being a bit naive??? Any views?
Baby not due until April, so planning on buying crib now so that cats can get used to is, and we can train them to stay out - have heard that tin foil is a good deterent, and we already know they hate being scooshed by a water pistol!!
Thanks0 -
The cats would never go near my little girl when she was small i guess its the smell and the crying and all that, don't think they came near me while she was little either
And as for when she got bigger the cats were terrified
lol ran away before she got hold of any tails! lol
I just got the moses basket out again to give it a dust... and none of them seem interested (i'm due in April too) just decorated baby 2's bedroom
