Just received the new Sims2 which requires Directx9. I downloaded this and it tells me:
No Directx9 compatible graphics in this system
Any ideas of what I should do next? And no, returning Sims2 is not an option according to my daughter

looking at the error message it suggests that DirectX 9 wont work with your graphics card - do you know what it is?Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0

ATI Technologies 3D RAGE 11C AGP
Having looked at the ATI site to check on downloading a driver I can't even find this?0 -
sadly it seems your card isn't compatable with DirectX 9 - how old is your PC?
Looking at the link provided by Joe_Bloggs it seems that the Rage chipset isn't supported by Sims2.
if you don't want to take it back you might have to upgrade your graphics card.Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0 -
i bought the sims 2 set for my daughter, however i could not install it is there wasn't enough drive space. i paid £60 for extra space now it is showing my graphic card is not compatable. the shop wont take it back because they told my daughter to make sure the comuter is compatable with the sims 2 package.
this is driving me crazy as a £35 game is costing me over £90 for her to play. any suggestions on the graphic card and are they easy to install >:(0 -
they are relativley easy to install, again there are pitfalls
you need to know what cards your motherboard will take and if it is AGP what speed.
Bit of a minefield, do you know what motherboard you have?Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0 -
Thanks Woo, I have been all round the block with this today and reckoned that a new graphics card was going to be needed but its good to have it confirmed.
Are we talking a lot of money here? I paid £28 for Sims2 from Amazon by the way Keith.0 -
the graphics card that i have you can pick up for around 30 quid - bit even that is ageing a bit you can spend up 400 on one if you want , but it depends on what your motherboard can take.Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0

Thanks to Joe for the website giving the hardware requirements which I emailed to my pc guy and thanks to Woo for confirming it was my graphics card that needed replacing!
