phones 4 u insurance annoyances

Hi was just wondering whether anyone has had to deal with this issue and some advice.

Basically I bought a phone a year ago with insurance from phones 4 u. It was an expensive phone so I needed insurance but did the whole "im leaving..." thing to get the £7.99 insurance.
When I saw my phone had gone down to £150 on PAYG I decided to cancel the insurance as its not worth paying £50 excess now the phone is cheaper.

I cancelled my direct debit to phones 4 u insurance (like I did on my previous phone) and expected the usual phone calls.

With my last phone I got about 6 calls and told them I didn't want the insurance as it wasn't worth it and then they left me alone.

I don't know whether they are losing business what with the "credit crunch" but with my new phone they've phoned me everyday for about 3 weeks. Luckily most of the time I'm busy or my phone is on silent so I don't speak to them.

The other day my phone rang and I didn't even look, just answered it and the person on the other end of the phone started the usual blab about phones 4 u insurance then he said "can I please have you're address to confirm who you are?"

Now I'm quite savvy about my personal details (I hope...) and thought about it for a second and then said no, I informed him that I don't know who HE is and how does HE intend on confirming himself. It started into a bit of an argument. In which he said I HADN'T cancelled my insurance and "I'd check you're bank if I were you as we'll still be taking it until you confirm you're address!"
Then he said "if you confirm you're address we can get you're insurance back on"

The LAST thing I want is my insurance back on!

Anyway since he'd totally made me think I'd done something illegal I thought I'd check out their insurance booklet

http://www.phones4u.co.uk/help/PayMonthlyTermsBooklet.pdf (sorry if this doesnt work... I'm a newb)

Section E) Cancelling the Policy
Point 5. "Cancellation or unsuccessful collection of your direct debit will be considered as a cancellation of your policy. We will attempt to collect your direct debit payment twice before the collection is considered unsuccessful"

So if I cancelled before Xmas surely my policy is null and void?

He also said that with my last phone I was "lying" and "it wouldn't have cancelled you're insurance if you cancelled you're direct debit, can you confirm you're address"

Basically I don't know what to say next time he phones up... which he will unless he reads this and realises he is a LIAR! lol Should I complain?!

Please help someone!

Do you have a phone contract with them? If no, ask him to remove all references to you from their databases as you no longer consider yourself to be their customer and no longer wish to deal with them. I would guess that this should then be covered under the data protection act.

Not that I'm aware! just bought the phone from them. Contract is with Orange.

Got another call tonight at 7.30pm!! It's becoming a joke!
  • call them up instead, tell them you've stopped payments and consider the insurance stopped. That way you know your speaking to the correct company and you can ask them to stop contacting you. Personally I would speak to a company before cancelling a direct debit, regardless of the terms and conditions, as my credit is excellent and don't want this breached in any way.

also i didn't think that would affect my credit score?
I've done this before and it's never caused a problem (I had to be credit checked for my job after cancelling my last one and it was perfectly fine)

I started a thread the other day about my insurance from phones 4 u!

I have told them to stop phoning and they havent! they now phone twice sometimes three times a day and I keep telling them I shouldnt be on the computer anymore.

Its getting to the point now where I just wanna switch my phone off but cant since its the only way I can contact people (except landing on their doorsteps)

I phoned orange and they said they cannot block a number

I'm really at the end of my tether!

Does anyone know anyway of getting them to stop before I snap my sim card in 2?

I have told them to remove me - they havent

and I definatly ticked the "do not contact me" box when I signed the contract

can anyone give me a contact to complain?
