I've found this thread interesting reading; I remember my children asking me why they couldn't have shop bought food like everyone else did at school!

They are now 21 and 24, and interestingly enough make food from scratch, buy organic meat and very good cooks. :j :T

go out leave a note saying dinner is in the cupboard, and continue untill they get to hungry to complain
    Money's too tight to mention!!!
  • MY DD1 was having a lesson about healthy eating and the teacher was asking everyone about the contents of their packed lunches and my DD1's was the healthiest (hurrah!!) and she amazed the teacher by telling her all about additives and preservatives (so she does listen really!) - it made me so proud. So there i was telling my MIL and FIL all about it and all FIL could say was they havent proved anything about organic fruit and veg - its no better than the ordinary stuff. My DD1 sat there looking all deflated - someone always has to ruin the moment. Luckily she has decided to stick with her original opinion!!!!

Its the opposite of being fed up of old style in my household,my son loves to come home from school to see what ive made or prepared for tea or what i have baked.I even feel like im a proper parent now which im ashamed to admit.Even grating my own cheese was new to me,i was the typical everything for convenience shopper and to think of the money ive wasted i could scream. It did take a while to adapt to old style without feeling like a slave. The only bit i detest now is all those dishes, whereas before all i maybe had was a fork and a plate.

My daughter had to make a pudding in school "cookery" lessons using a packet of angel delight and a packet of ginger nuts. I was NOT amused-it was perhaps unfortunate for her cookery teacher that there was a Parents Evening the following week -especially as I could still taste the revolting concoction!

How to make up a Cup-A-Soup in "Cookery".

That's the good old British Education System :)

i took 2 semesters of foods classes in high school (it was an elective)

for our first presentation we had to pick something and cook it in front of the class and then serve it up. we also had to get permission beforehand because we bought the supplies and the school reimbursed us

well i was a bit concerned about approaching the teacher for mine because i knew it would be more expensive compared to the norm but she so willingly agreed, almost with a sense of relief on her face

well, sure enough we had plenty of people demonstrating how to bake brownies or make a simple beef stew etc... my project?

Cornish Hens (Poussins) stuffed with wild rice, mushrooms and shallots and basted with garlic butter!

the teacher was so pleased with just the idea and even happier with the results and the entire class was chuffed because everyone got to have some!

and me, well i knew it was fancy for me because of the ingredients (we were quite poor) but it wasn't anything unusual, i'd done many things like that with chicken and onions vs shallots etc... i was 15 and had been cooking the family meal a few nights a week since i was 10! needless to say i got an A+

shame they don't teach stuff like that now...
