    1. Try and get s UK host. If your website is down at 9am UK time, it's 4 in the morning in New York. Support may be a bit lacking...

    2. Free hosting probably not worth it for a business website. You can get hosting for a measly £15 a year and you get all sorts of bonuses like support, server speed and augmented services like webstats, forums, blogs, and such like.

    3. Oh and there's almost always catch with free hosts. You may not even know what it is till you try and move away from them.

    4. my regular tip in here is www.bigwetfish.co.uk. which i find excellent in terms of reliability, support and the sheer amount of free extras. (Fantastico)
Sorry if it sounds like an advert, but I've used 10-15 different hosts over the years and these are the best value I've seen.

I've always recommended NetHosted for UK Web Hosting, they are a superb host in my opinion. Their support is like no other host I've tried, always helpful and always quick! You can actually view this on their forums where they offer some support and some customers views too, it seems a lot of other people share my opinion. At the end of the day with hosting you get what you pay for in most cases, I think you actually get more here.

One tip for you I've learned, if you are trying to attract customers online to your business, go for hosting based in the UK, your site will then rank better in google uk for people searching for it than if it was based in another country. Good luck!

I'd suggest the UK based company HourHost.com, i have 6 sites hosted with them and they have been very helpfull and supportive.

One of the bonus being an HourHost customer is that they have an account manager where they assign a person to me and they guide me on how to set up my website and general help if needed, this service is fantastic and has helped me out alot. I certainly needed this service and they offer it for free with any hosting account.

    https://www.hourhost.com

    Good luck

I was using Jamroll, which was free and had been excellent the last few years - fast, superb uptime, etc. But it's closing on the 11th Feb. So I now need to move hosts. With Jamroll you could host multiple domains on one account - does anyone have recommendations for cheap hosts where this is possible? Do the above mentioned companies allow this? I don't want to have to shell out for a separate hosting account for each domain.

Some mention subdomains, but I presume that is different? In Jamroll I think it was "add-on domains" that I used to host extra sites.

i know microsoft have one.... but i totally forgot where to look.... but it is limited...
  • I too used to use jamroll until my website just disappeared, and the jamroll.net website wasnt working (gave me a page cannot be displayed error). I did a bit of searching and found jamroll.info that gives you some details as to what happened to the website.

Now im left high and dry because I didn't get any warning and i need to try and find my backup of my website! :(

That page also gave you a link to some cheap hosting, but ive not tried them yet...

    Hey!

    Try http://ezpzhosting.co.uk

They are great! Not the cheapest but UK based and they guys who run it are dedicated. I used to have one of their reseller accounts and never had any major issue and when they did they gave me my next month free :-) Now on a normal shared account now.

I found them through a ratings site and they were number one so thats why I originally went for them and do not regret it.

Be sure to do some research on a company before committing yourself though, hosting is a very easy thing to do these days and their are a lot of people who buy a resellers account and sell on normal hosting accounts. This would usually mean they don't have the funds or would not know how to manage a server and any problems you have they would not be able to fix.

Some other people i would highly recommend:

http://one.com <<< Very basic, might be a bit too basic.
http://innohosting.co.uk <<< Another company who's owner is dedicated to his job.
http://flyhigh.net <<< Again another good company.

    @chunter

Your first point may not be valid, I used to outsource my support and they had support centers in the USA, India and the UK. However if their was a planned downtime they would usually do it during the night in USA time which normally would be the morning here in the UK. The main thing with Uk hosting is that you will be indexed on Google UK and pages will load faster if you have a lot of content such as images.

Hope this helps the OP or anyone else looking in future. Thanks would be appreciated

To think I only come on here to find a cheap laptop for mother.:A
