If your local freecycle is a very active group I am sure you will find what you are looking for on there. Might also be worth looking at freecycle groups further afield that you wouldn't mind traveling to.

I get free CD's from pigsback.co.uk - there is a huge thread about it on the Freebies section of this board:

Have you tried local businesses and schools?, I know some places throw old computers away and with a bit of help could be stripped and reloaded. Also, Car boot Markets (I believe there is a couple of good ones in Coventry, Mercia, Holbrook lane and Centre 8T7) you may get a bargain.

The library does not only have free PC use but you can rent DVDs and CDs...oh and books too ! Also you can borrow toys from a toy library. Young carers run days out and events and socialising for kids in your friends grandsons position.. this could do him a lot of good. We have got a TV and a computer and monitor from the tip! ..£5.00 each...fully working order..fabulous!

Freecycle is great, I'm sure you'll get loads of help on there.

I wish you were near us as we have bits and bobs kicking about (old pc, monitor etc).

If the family is on a low income they maybe able to get a lesuire acess card ( thats what ours are called) basically it means you can get a discount card from the council which will give you money of swimimming and boweling etc.

Also contact the sally army they really are wonderful.
