Emirates is a very good airline, but in my experience Singapore is even better. Partly that is because I like champagne, which is free and unlimited in economy on Singapore, but not Emirates.

With any of these airlines, you check in for the entire journey and at that stage you receive all your boarding passes. No need to check in again.

As for the duty-free shopping in Dubai, prices are a little higher than at Heathrow, and I was not all that impressed by the selection (although it was interesting to see a platinum mobile phone costing about thirty thousand US dollars).
  • Qwerty: that wouldn't bother me. Why does it matter?
BA are more likely to lose your luggage anyway :D

One thing I've noted looking at flights is some go via LA !! Which means getting off the plane to be fingerprinted by the Homeland Security facists.
So watch out going the wrong way round the globe.

We went with Singapore Airlines to Adelaide last year, stopped at Singapore both ways. The service was fantastic, excellent food quality and the inboard entertainment system was brilliant. Changi airport was a breeze and if you're going to have a stopover I would recommend Singapore, we had an amazing time.

We flew from Manchester and I was stuck between Emirates and Singapore as the both flew to Adelaide and the choice really was did we want to stop at Dubai or Singapore. Hotel prices and flight stopover times made us plump for Singapore. We had a fantastic time though - I would go back to SIngapore in a flash, it was the highlight of our trip.

Oh and if you don't have time to have a few days to explore the city fully, SIngapore Airlines offer a free whistlestop tour which can help to kill a few hours between connections.

My son has flown all three and he says far and away, Singapore!
I have only flown Emirates (to India). I didn't find anything special about them. About as good as Lufthansa.
  • I would recommend Singapore as well, I have also flown Emirates but Singapore gives a better rounded service.

Also if you have a stop over for a few ours in Singapore there is a hotel air side where you can rent rooms per 3 hours (I think). They also have a bar and pool, so you can catch up on a bit of sleep have a swim and a decent meal which makes the whole trip a lot more pleasant

SQ is the most expensive of the 3 (at least it was whenever I booked flights home) but I'd still travel on it cos I find it better than the rest.

I don't know if it matters to you or not but the OP wanted to stay in the same seat all the way.

With regards to lost luggage, if you look at the latest statistics, BA is now better than any of its European network rivals thanks to Terminal 5, so that statement is rubbish.
  • Once bitten, twice shy ;)
  • I've flown singapore airlines and qantas/ba on quite a regular basis from lon-sin-lon. qantas and ba are pretty standard flights, and they stop over at singapore before continuing onto aussie, standard entertainment. Singapore airlines has bigger seats, better services and food, and you'll prob be travelling on a A380 vs qantas 777 for the 13 hr london-sin 13 hr flight. But do check when u're booking. I'll usually go for BA because I dont do much on e flight apart from sleep. But if you're in for comfort and service and the difference isnt too much, choose Singapore Airlines.
