I have never had points deducted, (only ever taken genuinely faulty goods back)

  • we bought a hoover from Mr Ts as a wedding prezzie. I think it came with 500 extra points. We had to take it back, they had gotten a better hoover from someone else. The points were never taken off our cc, even though it was stated it on the receipt.

  • We get lots of good stuff from these companies. Ok they make lots of money, you just need to know how to play the system and buy your stuff on the right day with the right coupon or promo... Delibrately buying stuff to get the points and taking them back for a refund is between you and your conscience. In itself it is morally wrong but hey if you can live with that. More often than not places will let you keep your points as its less hassle than removing them from your card. Ripping the bottom off your receipt however will just get their backs up and could spoil their generosity for the rest of us.

This - in my eyes- is fraud pure and simple, and definitely not in keeping with the ethos of this site.
  • I'll let you know in a couple of days. Bought a sony camcorder today for £369. Returned it later, as the OH wasn't happy that I'd bought it.

Just to let you know, Tesco didn't take the 369 points back for the above returned purchase.
In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?

i am surprised this thread is not deleted yet!!!
Honesty is the best policy doesn't matter which web site
    you are on!

if i had known then what i know now!

a bargain is only a bargain if you really need it!
  • totally agree this is fraud and money saving is one thing but this is not on. On a number of cases when I have taken things back to boots because they werent suitable they have asked for my boots card and assume they have deducted the points, which I thought was fair enough.

dont spoil it for everyone else just for a couple of quid, there are better ways and more honest ways to get more points
  • Just to add my penny worth.. These seem to be genuine cases where somthing is wrong, the goods were returned and Tesco failed to take back the points - the fault is with Tescos and good luck to he purchasers ;).

I would not advovate buying somethingy expensive with a view to return it and gain the points :naughty:

How daft do you think Tescos are for how long? :!!

Maybe. However how does this differ from using Boots vouchers to obtain free goods, or using cachback sites and depositing money in online gaming to achieve cash / nectar points. Or juggling credit cards to obtain free interest well beyond the intended period. Or taking out policies / services /magazine subscriptions to obtain free gifts with the view of cancelling. Or buying overpriced goods from Tescos to obtain them free or.....

None of these scenarios is what the retailer / company want or expect from their customers, but we do it to buck the system, and make something for ourselves.

IMHO it is not fraudulant. Cheeky, playing the system, morally questionable, but not fraudulant.

There is now a sign at the Customer Services Desk at the Watford Extra Superstore, saying something along the lines of, where an expensive item is returned, the clubcard points will be deducted, also, where bonus points have been given.

I will get the exact wording when I pop in either later today or tomorrow morning and report back.
