I found this link in a forum i use so i cant take the credit for it but i thought you may like to browse through it and see what you think.
'The truth here is that shampoo's bad for your hair. It cleans out dirt, but also the oil that makes your hair shiny and strong. However shampoo's sold as something your hair really needs, and the truth is suppressed.'

I remember, years ago, watching a program where they had got people to not wash their hair to see what happened. (One of those early evening progs with Dr Miriam Stoppard et al I believe) They then got them back on the program after 6 weeks to see. They all had clean, shiney locks. They said the worst bit was about 1-2 weeks in, when you're hair still hasn't built up enough of its own oil to cleant eh hair, and their hair selt. Once past that stage, they said it was great and they'd never go back tousing shampoo again.
What I want to know is - if you colour your hair, that's going to defeat the object, isn't it? (not, of course, that I colour mine, you realise:A )
Now - why did I come upstairs, before I got sidetracked onto MSE? Oh yes, I was going to see if I had time to colour...erm..... wash my hair before I need to do the school runD

I have been looking for shampoo without sodium laural sulphate
http://www.health-report.co.uk/sodium_lauryl_sulphate.htm
I might try one of these with a vinegar rinse

I think 8 yrs ago when that article was written all shampoos were very similar but now some have tried to use ingredients that actually help your hair, and are very different,
my hairdresser has a llist of shampoos to avoid and a list of those that do no harmI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. I believe the programme was called, Don't just sit there. I think Magnus Pyke was in it too wasn't he, or have I completely got my wires crossed.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0 -
i swear by sprinkling talc on my hair and coming it through to remove greasyness. only shampoo it after swimming to remove the chlorine. rest of the time its natural, clean shiny and much stronger than it ever used to be.£2 saver club 30th sept 198 £2 coins = £396(£350 banked)0

I saw a programme once where some volunteers left their hair unwashed. (It may have been the one TM was posting about) after a bit of time smelling like a sheep the hair balanced itself. If you live or work in poluted areas like cities and towns or live near busy roads and motorways I wouldn't sugest you try it as your hair will be full of all kinds of nasties and of course you cannot colour, perm, hightlight or use any styling products as these do need to be washed out to avoid build up and scalp irritation.Life's a beach! Hubby doesn't use anything on his hair, hasn't washed it in anything but warm water for about 4 years now. Has the softest hair imaginable & not a trace of dandruff or itchy scalp;). The balancing period was about a month, he didn't find it a problem but then he has short hair & we were in the depths of poorest China & couldn't use chemicals as we were washing in rivers which were also the main water supply & we didn't want o pollute them so didn't have much choice anyway:D Wouldn't recommend it if you have long hair as the balancing period is a nightmare or if you use stying products as you need something to wash these out.

I've stated using lush shampoo bars and I wouldn't go back to 'normal' shampoo now, it smells gorgeous and I've had lovely soft, shiny hair since, i'm also doing my bit by not having the packaging to bin or recycle.0

If you're looking for shampoo that has no sodium laural sulphate in I think Boots own make of baby shampoo has none in,though it is quite expensive.bye hoo0
