    Waterstones - 20% off

I also asked in Waterstones one time as there was several pages in the book that had been folded over and it looked quite bad. They gave me 20% off the cover price of the book.

    Marks & Spencer - 33% off

Saw a pair of slippers that I particularly liked. The only pair left in my size had a mark on them. I pointed this out when I went to pay and they gave me 33% off.

    Borders Books - 10% off

I usually print off a 10% discount voucher for Borders when I visit. Unfortunately, I forgot the other day. Came across a book I was wanting to pick up for my birthday. I spotted a few dog ears on it, so I pointed them out and they gave me 10% off it. Told them it was for a birthday present. (mine :D ).

Duncan Frasers - Local butcher - 5% off

Picked up two haggis for Burns night, jokingly asked for discount seeing as it was my birthday. Chap said, Aye right, disbelieving that it was my birthday. Quickly showed my drivers licence to confirm my DOB and I got 5% off. Chuffed to bits.

    Costa Coffee - 10% off

Dropped by for a hot chocolate and slice of cake. Chatted with the lady at the counter and cheekily asked for discount seeing as it was my birthday. She said, Ach, I s'pose I could she says. Got 10% off. Lovely cake too, apple and cinnamon, lovely. Going back tomorrow, twice so I'll be as big as a house at this rate.

    Debenhams - (nearly) 10% off

Picked up a nice kitchen apron I liked the look of. I'm pretty sure I'd have got my 10% off had it not been that I was pressed for time and there was a queue forming behind me. Didn't have too much time left to try my luck. It was still cheaper than the ones I have seen/liked on the internet though.

    Tesco

Not exactly haggling, but a bargain all the same.

Just came back from Tescos, tried to swing it getting two bottles of Jacob Creek wine for £8 (price £4.44 a bottle), no can do they said, adamant, tried for a good 10 minutes but they said they were struggling to make a profit as it was. Can you believe it. 88p discount and a no can do, can you believe it Not to be outdone, I recalled a Tesco £5 voucher languishing in my purse which they gave me when a juice carton which was precariously perched on a shelf fell on me and burst open, all over my super expensive £3 top notch Matalan jeans. Fiver was compensation when I complained, stains came out first wash. Got bottle of wine after all and just paid 50p for my shop. Result.

Looks like I'll have to find some more cartons of precariously perched juice. ;)
Thanks for this site, it's brilliant. Made my day.

Saved myself a fortune. Thanks everyone.

MFI. The easiest place to haggle. Our trick is to ask for the best price they can give us on the furniture if we take out the extended warranties. The sales staff get their commission on the extended warranties so it's in their interest to knock down the furniture.

We leave the store to think it over and then phone back to place the order, but speak to someone else and ask them to remove the warranties from the quote. It's cheeky but works :o We got the price of the last kitchen we bought down from over £8200 to £7000 on the nose.
I agree Doozergirl. I also find it's worth negotiating a discount with the Manager and point out I'm a landlord and therefore suggesting I will be a regular customer. They never ask for proof so I don't see why any Moneysaver might suggest the same if it gets them a better deal. :p They've discounted me the VAT on a number of occasions, 17.5% ain't a bad discount in my book.

Local Carpet Fitter - 20% off

Asked for discount for fitting of carpets/vinyl in my flat, knocked off 20% of original quote as I paid in cash.

Local Computer store - £100 off

When I bought my PC and all that goes with it, the guy that built it for me gave me £100 off as I paid cash. Covered through an insurance claim.

and... there wasn't a live chicken in sight and everything was top notch, no shop soiled goods/seconds etc :p

Seriously, dont try it in GAME or Choices or ASDA ... you wont get anywhere.

    Hiya,

Just had to disagree and say that you can haggle in both Game stores in Dundee. I know this from experience when myself and a few friends clubbed together and placed a rather large order coming to just over £1200 (lot of stuff) and we saved around £600 by haggling.

The same could not be said about Game in Dunfermline - most they offered us on our purchases was a few second hand games thrown in but then again i do think that they doubted the size of the order in the first place.

Moral of the story is if you can club together with friends to get similar things at the same time you stand a better chance of haggling as you have more clout throught the bigger order. Game in Debenhams said that they are allowed one silly deal every now and then and boy did i get a silly deal at the time. Know of a few others who have done this in both Dundee stores.

Dixons were also prepared to haggle but Virgin were not.

Several friends and many children happy at the result of this bargaining power and i'd certainly recommend it and do it again.

    Hope this helps.
