madstef: Yes, I would like to buy this 32 inch TV
Store: That's £1099.97
madstef: Yeh but give me a discount, I can't feed my children
Store: erm ok 999.97I'm goign to see if I can hire some kids for an afternoon and see if I can get a discount this way
Don't worry about hiring any, you can borrow my four for free, in fact I'll pay you!
Actually I've never tried to get a discount using the children, but I think I may now! They certainly encourage quick service, most places can't wait to get rid of us! Imagine how much damage they can all cause in Kwikfit, no queueing for me! They also came in handy when making a complaint in the dry cleaners! And I never have to look for a member of staff in Currys when I have the children with me, the staff are on me in an instant! :rolleyes:GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
B&Q garden section, reduced plants,i always look out for these, the prices are so cheap when reduced,i caught the assistant ( male) reducing these, some were'nt reduced as they looked healthier, but by flirting and asking to help me,my hubby stood well back with embarassment, watched from afar,he could,nt believe his eyes, the assistant was reducing anything for me i asked...i got about £30 worth of plants for about £2.00,result......hubby did wonder when the guy was going to ask for my phone number :rotfl: Oh and flirting works @ pc world too....but that another story :rotfl::T It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice. :T

Anyone ever had any luck in John Lewis? I have my eye on a £425 leather recliner. It wasn't in the sale so I have been waiting for the february lull. Then I was going to take advantage of this quiet period to try to get a discount. What do you reckon my chances are?0

Mention that you're buying it for a birthday present etc or a gift for your mum or something and I'm sure you'd get a discount of some kind. Worth a shot.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0

Not strictly haggling, but Richer Sounds will match any online price AND beat it by a certain amount, depending on its price. e.g. if its between £100 and £200 they will beat it by £10
Just go onto Kelkoo and print off the cheapest you can find (that's in stock).
I recently got a panasonic DVD recorder which was £240 full price, on sale in Richer Sounds for £170. I found it for £150 online, and so they price-matched and beat it by £10 to give a total cost of £140.0 -
Most high street places have staff discount so they can afford it if you push
Anywhere on Oxford street as they have a large arab population that are used to haggling, seriously0 -
Seriously, dont try it in GAME or Choices or ASDA ... you wont get anywhere.0

In DEBENHAMS if anything has a mark on it or the packaging is damaged, just point it out at the checout & the operater nearly alwasys offers 10% off .
I had some real bargains in the sale. I now look for the slight damaged ones
They are good to haggle with. Not tried it on make-up though.0 -
My OH loves haggling and does it everywhere - he even asked for a discount on a pint of milk in Harrods food hall - and got 10% (4p?). He was very pleased with himself. :j (Nothing wrong with it, nowhere near sell by date).
We've found that most of the large department stores will give something if you ask nicely - but you get maximum speaking to someone with a bit of authority. Just before Xmas at John Lewis we bought 2 chairs, which they reduced from £150 to £120 each, just for us asking, the were perfect. We always have a friendly chat with the assistant before we ask - and it works!0 -
I paid cash for my setee from M&S didnt get a discount but got free delivery before christmas and got 3 M&S catalogues for free. (priced £2.00 each apparently)
Also bought some gloves already discounted in debenhams sale which split a little bit wen i put them on but could be easily sowed but took them back anyway and got another 10% off another pair as all of them had a small unpicked stitch.
I always ask for discount off clothes that are slightly marked even if its just with make up that will wash off.
Was also forced to ask for a discount on the dublin city tour bus when i was on a girls weekend away as i was thought to be the only one with the cheek to ask. We got £2.00 off each ticket
Got 10% off a lampshade at ikea as it had a mark due to the way it had been stacked with other lampshades, once i ot it home it was fine as it popped straight back into place.0
