  • Hi, I dont want to be detrimental to your friends friend, it was very kind, but things like what browser you use (IE/firefox/opera etc) is really personal opinion and is up to you. In my eyes, firefox is far superior but again this is only my opinion.

As to security software, AVG is perfectly good, in fact I run it on my girlfiends laptop (I use linux). The most important thing is to ensure that you regularly update - every day. It is easier to set this up automatically but regardless of what software you use it will be much more vunerable if you dont update.

    AVG is 'ok'
If you do a search for it on this very forum youll find LOADS of people have had problems with it over the last year. Ranging from being unable to update, unable to fully remove itself, completely missing trojans or suchlike, slowing computers down, removing legit OPERATING SYSTEM files...................
I certainly wouldnt describe it as 'perfectly good' anyways.

The programmers (I use that term very loosely :p) of said nasty software seems to be be upgrading and 'changeing' their 'programs' at an ever increasing rate. Even MYWEBSEARCH which was very easy to remove at one point (Though I had a hell of a time removing the toolbar from firefox on my dads computer last year) seems to change weekly! What could be killed a week ago suddenly cant. Its a constant battle between the virus writers and the anti virus updaters.
Id certainly agree that the last few months seems to have brought along a whole new plethora of viruses
