i would say its a mix of point 3 and the fact that people aren't using the correct search terms.

Although I've noticed 1 person (won't name them) has posted the same comp many, many times, which is a tad annoying:rolleyes:

PS I've never posted a dupe either. :D Then again I haven't posted that many comps:p

    I just posted one.

I searched on the name and the value of the prize.

    Nothing came up.

    I said fiddlesticks!

Edit: Original was posted in December, so perhaps I should have looked back further, over the page. Smack hand.

I think that, often, by the time someone has done a search and posted the comp someone else has been doing just the same but a few minutes earlier.

Is there/should there be a way of setting up the post, THEN doing the search just before you post, to see if anyone else has just beaten you to it?

Must admit I am a bit obsessive and keep another window open and refresh it a few times to see if the comp appears before I post mine. Yep I'm weird:D

I know of one site(a warez site) that actuall has a search engine built into the start a new thread page, where if your typing a topic header, it actually searches for it as you type.

There's a lot of duping going on, at the moment.
    • Is this because search is slow to catch up

The above is the main prob for me

for most comps I search by the main part of the url (I drag and drop into a toolbar at the top of my browser which is set up to search the competition boards) etc http://www.jordanscereals.co.uk/talk-to-us/january-exclusive-offers to bring up a list

if nothing shows then I search by prize details

then check the board to see if it's already been posted although sometimes I get lazy like today (thanks for the merge Al ) and just post if it dosen't come up in the main search

i'ts all a bit long winded though isn't it

have noticed that a lot of the dupe post's are being done by MSE seniors (who really should know how to search for dupes) and not always by newbies

I do that as well. I do a manual search of the last couple of hours and then refresh in the second window immediately before pressing the post button. Started doing this after I posted a dupe 1 minute after someone else.
I think many people include too much detail in their search such as the full url. I find site name only (e.g. mymovies) or single word searches for the prize or question answer usually work OK.
