well,i kept trying to do an update,but with no luck.after googling how to do it from mozilla,fingers crossed,it appears to be working.

Its nothing to do with that Mandy. We need to find why you cant just open them for starters

Goto DEVICE MANAGER
And uninstall your dvd/cd drive driver
Reboot and let windows resinstall it

Does it open and close ok?
Does it make a sound once discs inserted?
Have you checked the connections to it?

yes,it opens and closes ok.makes no sound when i insert a disc,and yes,the connections are fine.

I'd be inclined to reinstall IE7 again.
