Not accountancy beanie ...I refer to Sammy et al for that.....
However there is some finance stuff involved.....I am subcontracted by public sector organisations to offer business advice/strategy formulation/assistance with raising finance (debt or equity) to small businesses. I pick apart their business plans and financial projections and put them back together again in a way that makes their company and product a viable proposition for future investment. I am also a regional business Mentor for the South East (some of that is pro bono work)....
The public sector financial year ends 31st march and many programs stop after this...hence the big rush this month......and the famine thereafter ...
oviously many of the clients I have visited this year want me to continue to work with them........for free   (as they haven;t any money)......have to be very careful not to be used and abused in this game.......and it's difficut trying to expain to them I am just a "one meeting"gal.......J'adoube (from chess) kinda describes my role best..........
Thanks for asking......

Hi All
Wow - a quiet moment (because of a cancelled appointment tomorrow) so time to catch up.....oops this could be a "Numpty missive"
So....the letter to both the CEO's bore fruit........and acknowledgements were received from both PA's closely followed by a letter from the "Senior Complaints Analyst". ....
..BUT.......Hold your horses everyone.......I spotted a "sneaky"........
So I rang the "Senior Complaints Analyst"....and guess what, they are trying to say
a) my complaint starts from the date of the email to the CEO's (ie 9th March) .......as I have now been officially moved to "Tier 2 Complaints" ... but only because of the email sent to the Executive Offices (no mention of all the stuff/letters I have been sending to the normal Complaints unit since 8th December which apparently is "only Tier 1")
b) they therefore have 8 weeks to respond from 9th March 09 before they are in breach as this is a new (!!!!!! ) complaint......and
c) While I could if I wanted to go to Financial Services Ombudsman now, the FSO wouldn;t be able to adjudicate because insurance company have not issued final response
                ...do they think i was born yesterday:mad:
....So I rang the Ombudsman who said "ref all the above.......Bollo**s! This is standard "tricky" practice we have seen many times before. Get your complaint in now as in our opinion it dates back to your letter of 8th December 08 and they are now clearly in breach of the 8 week rule and we will therefore adjudicate without a final response........:T :T .....
...........oh but it will take 6 months
Ho hum..........Wol reaches for "une autre bouteille du vin".........
I DID however manage to get interim payment of £16k expedited from insurance company during said phone call :j :j :j :j
(it took all of 3 hours as opposed to the normal 4 months....so they can move when they want to) and
......I have used it to pay of the 0%BT credit card.
I didn;t really want to do this as I need the liquidity at the moment for the new buildings works. So in effect I have therefore turned unsecured into secured debt. (All savings/bank accounts etc are in a mortgage offset so anything that goes to pay off credit cards comes out of the savings/current accounts offsetting the mortgage and therefore increases the mortgage interest. Also this now means I now have virtually NO free cash in the bank ATM and need to find at least £35k over next few months to repair bridge and rectify house).
I was going to try and get another 0% BT but was awaiting insurance company and builders responses. However because they have been held up, I didn;t have enough time to apply for a new 0% BT (have applied to Abbey) AND make the payment in time to avoid the exhorbitant interest rates on the current card.
So for my future liquidity it looks like I might now go for a 0% purchases card instead and then BT it after the term finishes.
All this means that as of tomorrow I wiil be DEBT-FREE :j :j ..(subject to telephone confirmation).......having paid of approximately £20k of credit card debt over the past 18 months........:j
BUT...... my mortgage now also includes the additional £40k drawdown on the offset earlier this year PLUS I now have to find an extra £35k cash for building works which will mean another drawdown on the offset. I am treating these drawdowns as debt that needs to be paid off like a credit card as it registers as a separate account/debt on my mortgage statement that I pay interest on....and I can pay it off just ike a credit card debt as and when fund allow.
So therefore I am going to continue to DFW like mad to pay off the £40k...and the possible additional £35k if that proves necessary because the insurance won;t pay up.....Once I have done that I will feel eligible to post on the Debt-free roll of honour.
I am peed off at swapping the unsecured debt for secured debt and would not advise anyone else to copy this unless they have extremely similar circumstances to mine (which let's face it aren't exactly the norm are they boys and girls??) .
But on the whole things are looking up....and I now have enough work in to invoice April at similar levels to Feb and March - the first three months that not only cover my outgoings but leave me in profit.......(NB that profit unfortunately is not to pay off the debt you understand but is to be saved for the dreaded "on account" payment due to the taxman later this year cos I am self-employed...see they get you every which way......)
Anyway I have decided that I will slow my working hours down for the month of April so I can have some "me" time...and can post my picciethingiewhatsit initiative here..(Lula, Numpty please note) ........ and do my garden..... and post more regularly on MSE including the newbie and diary threads.....and do the chores that have been left undone for so many weeks while the work has been pouring in...and visit some people...and just so I have time to...... BREATHE...:D
Onwards and upwards........and doesn;t the sunshine make everything seem so much better....especially when you neighbour has finally today cut down all the trees that have blocked the sun coming into your garden for the past three years and caused your courgettes to rot
