son coming home--benefot help please

My son might be coming back here to live. he works full time and we are on benefits- OH pension credit & me IB. Will they assume that he puts all his income into the house, or is there a set rent or board figure that they will use ? I know it will mess up my rent and CT but am trying to find out by how much so I can get it off him :D
I don't mind feeding & keeping him free but he has to pay the dfference in housing costs.

  • Housing benefit and Council Tax benefit are reduced by a fixed amount based on earnings, just look up deductions for non dependants. If you receive Attendance allowance or DLA care component there is no deduction.

  • My wife gets DLA and our son moved back in and i was worried about our benefits but there was no reduction of Housing benefit or any other benefits.

ok ty, will go and check but that sounds great.. I don't like to sound hard as he's my eldest son and he's much loved and welcome --but living on benefits is so tight as it is that I need to be careful. As do we all in these interesting times !

Why would you do this if you're on a tight budget?

Anyway, if he's any decent sort of young man, as I'm sure he is, he'll want to do his bit and help his family.

Well, ONW, I thought it might be a lot, but I did a calculation ands it comes up as a £50 difference, which he can pay. He's a great son and does all my gardening and decorating happily, but he is in a rubbish job with very low pay, plus his work is a long way from here, hence a high petrol bill. I wanted cost it all out before we discuss it, so we all know what's what. :)

I have 2 adult sons. I wouldn't even contemplate supporting them in any way unless it was an emergency. And then very short term.

TBH Oldernotwiser has a very valid point. mardatha is often to be seen on the boards saying she is finding it hard to live on benefit income alone, so how could she afford to fund the living expenses of a working adult son?

well I'm to be seen often on the boards yes, but I do say other things than how hard it is to live !!
I needed to cost things out before going any further. Thanks all who helped.

Why would a SON want to live off his disabled parents who rely on benefits? Not if he was a real man, anyway.
