Haven't had the SIM updates sent yet either. I'll give it till Monday (as it's just a backup phone) and then if nothing has happened by then I'll give Orange a ring.

You won't get the updates before the phone is un-barred. To check if its barred turn the phone on then press the left hand top button, it will say something like device blocked (doesn't say that but something similar).

The woman on the end of the phone (indian call center) said they had forgotten to remove the bar and it hadn't been requested. Literally seconds later I turned the phone on and it worked :D You may well have to tell them when you register if the bar is in place?

I now have my phone - phoned Orange to activate it and told it would take up to 24 hours. 24 hours later nothing! I phoned them back and it turns out the transit bar had not been taken off - they did it there and then and the SMS updates flooded through! If you don't get anything within 2 hours I'd suggest phoning them back to check they've done it correctly.

They also gave me £12 worth of 'Internet Access' (WAP?) valid for 30 days for free (I think they call this a free sample of an Orange World package).

They seem to be particularly bad at removing the transit bar. There appears to be a communication problem between the Indian call centre, where your registration call ends up, and Orange in the UK who seem to be the only ones who can remove the bar.

Your experience mirrors mine almost exactly.

I took up this WAP offer a while back and the £12 didn't last terribly long while I played with it. Either the CS didn't explain it well enough or I misunderstood but the £12 worth wasn't mentioned just 30 days for free and of course I was being charged well before the 30 days ended.

Incredible deal for a tenner - does everything I need in a phone.

I don't think it vibrates though which is one small feature I miss.

It does. It is called 'silent alert' in the thin manual. You will find it under the 'ringtones' part of the menu.

Remember the vibrate DOES NOT WORK when the unit is charging ;)
