  • How was the set delivered did you see it come in from the lorry..The reason I ask is that these large sets MUST be kept vertical/upright as shown on the warning label on the box, lay it on it's side and its game over for the panel. The weight of the glass distorts the internal structures.

Yes, I saw the set being moved from the lorry - it was vertical. Of course, they had to bring it upstairs, but I don't that would have made any change. It is just one line all through the height of the screen, about a third from the left - nothing you can do I suppose!

I've seen the green line problem on quite a few Tv's before tbh its not due to it being handled wrongly as this would be patches of discolouration. It mainly seems to be a fault that happens within the first month of purchase so I guess its a problem during manufacture. As its so recent Comet should exchange it immediately, but unless they're being unreasonable about the exchange I wouldn't blame them for the fault.

Was very please, until last night a green vertical line appeared!!! It seems like the panel is faulty and we need to start using warranty after just ~7 hours of viewing it! Still, picture is good even with the green line!

    Get it replaced

We are going to! Will try and call Comet today, probably and see if they can arrange a replacement for the following Saturday!

    Thanks everyone!

Ginvzt - did you order it over the telephone or the internet?

If so - you can get it returned straight away no problems... whether it's faulty or not. (7 day distant selling rule!)

Also - if you reported it on the same day - you can just get a new one right away anyhow!

p.s - because you bought it from comet..... if you did want sky and your a new customer you can get:

sky for FREE with £5 install.
    Sky+ £49 with £30 install.
    Sky+HD £49 with £30 install :)

a goo bargin - considering sky charge over the moon for the boxes :-/

    Hi again.

The TV engineer came in this morning and declared TV faulty. We were told to contact the shop to get it exchanged. We went to Comet and they don't have any stock anymore!!!! And they are not going to continue with this model - so they claim they can't exchange it for us. I don't want a refund, or a different model - I want the one I chose in the first place.

I was sure that the retailer has to exchange the product if I requested (as retailer is the point of contact, not the manufacturer), but Comet insist they cannot exchange as they don't do it anymore (Panasonic still does!!!!) and only offer refund. Where do I stand? Can I push them to organise a replacement? Or should I just contact Panasonic and ask report the problem to them?

If it helps we were in Currys today and they had the Panasonic 42PZ85 (didn't look at the other part of the number sorry) for £799, so if Comet offer you your money back perhaps you can now get it from Currys. I checked the website when I got back, but it doesn't seem to be on there. It was at Currys on Cowley Rd Uxbridge. I asked for the PZ80 but they didn't have one and weren't getting anymore as they said it was a discontinued line, they checked the computer and said that no Currys in the area had one. The price was in the sale, which ends on Wednesday. Hope you have some success in getting a replacement.

All of the P*8* series Panasonic plasmas are last years models (hence the 8) and as such are either almost impossible to get, like the PX80 or just very difficult.

The 2009 range have recently been announced and will be in the shops soon, although will start off more expensive before they are discounted.

Have a look at avforums for more info

Although they may be last year's models they are still very good televisions!
