Vodafone PAYG disconnect non usage
Before I tackle Vodafone about this, has anyone had any success on reconnecting a PAYG phone because of non-usage. My elderly father had £30 on his phone and used it for emergencies. I told him that he needed to make a call to stop disconnection. He did indeed make a call, he rang his home number but hung up before connection
. He is 83 I guess.
Do people think I'll have any luck with Vodafone?

Depends on how long ago it was cut off, it'll drop in to the holding pot for a while and then after 6 months it'll come up for reissue. Once its in the hold pot some networks can get them back out some can't (depends on the network software), not all dept's can access the system to get at them, I would have thought the guys on the frontline in CS wouldn't have been able to and it would have to be sent off to a more 'techy' dept.
In the end it's down to if they want to be bothered, it may not be an easy thing to do and as, technically, you're in the wrong (for very good reasons) they may not want to !
I'd call them in the week, weekends you're going to find very few people in the call centres and VERY few of the tech depts will be in. In the week you've a far better chance of getting it done there and then (if it can be done at all!).
Good luck. . .0 -
Lyncroft, it does depend on how long ago this happened.
Speak to the helpdesk tomorrow about it. If they can't get the number back, ask to speak to the Team Leader and suggest they give you/him a new number and put a goodwill credit on there for you.
Then you just have to ensure that you make a call before the 6 months is up each time to avoid this happening again.Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -
Thanks to you all for your help. I'll ring tomorrow and let you know how it goes.0

Spoke to Vodafone today. No problems. The chap said if we had left it too much longer the number would have disappeared. Can't remember how long the phone hadn't been used. Anyway, got a happy dad with £50 on his phone. Cheers.0

Goodwill gesture from vodafone perhaps ??
They are quite good at doing things like that, my son replied to one of their spam txts asking them not so politely to leave him alone, so they gave him 300 mins and 300 txts free :beer:4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
Sorry, my dad got it wrong. He thought it was £30 on the phone but it was £50!0

6 Suspension, disconnection and ending the agreement
6a
3 You choose not to use the service for 180 days. Using this service means making any chargeable outbound calls (but not calls to 191, see your price plan for charges) or topping up your account.
6b If we suspend the mobile phone because you have chosen not to use the services (as defined in 6a3 above) for 180 days, we will, if you ask within 90 days of the suspension, reconnect the services and make available any previous credit held on your account at the time of the suspension. If you have not kept to this agreement or not used the services for 270 days, and we disconnect your mobile equipment, you will lose any credit held on your account.
6c We will try and tell you when we suspend, restrict or end your use, but we do not have to.
If the number does get disconnected (recycled as they call it) and it gets left to long to reconnect you can just get another (free) sim and start again with a new tel number, you will however lose any credit on the original one.0 -
I topped up a new Vodafone SIM with a tenner at roughly 22nd Dec 2009, after not using the SIM I check at the end of Jan 2010 to see if it is working ok only to find it is disconnected, so I email Vodafone about it and they keep replying with a standard email explaining about not using the SIM within 180 days and they recycle the number and I can't get my £10 back, I keep telling them please check their records and the will see it was only about 30 odd days and not over 180 days! and they keep emailng me back the same cut and pasted rubbish about their terms and for me to buy a another SIM at £5, I keep emailing saying please check your records it has only been about 1 month and they keep saying buy another SIM hope that helps you   , I understand mobile operators recycling/disconnecting numbers but Vodafone cut me off after about 1 month and aren't interested what so ever about resolving the issue
, anyone please got any advice on what I should do? it's not even really for getting the £10 back but really for the principle of them being in the wrong and couldn't care and to prevent this from happening to other people
Thank You0
