OK - don't know why but uninstalling my Bluetooth software seems to have solved the problem.
I'm now working in normal mode and everything is appearing quickly as it used to.
I think I'm going to leave drivers alone for the time being and only get the ones from Microsoft if it lists them under the Express option.
But why would installing a driver screw up my Bluetooth software, or is it the updated driver that is responsible for the whole mess?:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

As ive already said. One or more of the drivers has caused problems. Which will in turn stop certain programs from running as they should.
One or more may be corrupted!
Personally, id uninstall them all (except the ethernet one, obviously you want the net to work), and reinstall them
See how you get on for now. But anymore problems and thats what id suggest.:idea:0 -
