But will that work in safe mode as that is the only thing I can access?

To be honest I don't know - try. Also, does the Drivermax utility that you used not have a facility for undoing these updates? (I don't know as I personally have never used it)

Unfortunately, DriverMax doesn't have a rollback facility so I guess I'll have to do it manually and see what happens.

A quick Google reminded me of the "Last Known Good" option under the F8 boot-up.
It now works.

Hi all
One last thing. It's now taking an age to boot up after showing the desktop screen unlesss I use the "Last Known Good" option.

Download Statuplite open it and press continue http://www.malwarebytes.org/startuplite.php it will remove msn from startup unless you tell it otherwise.

OK - fixed that.
My other half likes the MSN to appear in the system tray on startup, so I'd better leave that one alone.

You can untick it, it presents everything on startup in a list then on the msn one select no action. Cant see anything bad in the hijackthis log may be worth running a quick scan of malwarebytes just in case. http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
