Thanks for the info! I don't tend to shop in Asda but there is one nearby. I will try and hold off until I find a recipe I really want to make, otherwise I KNOW I will end up just eating it!

OH WOW! That little experiment turned out really well! Very moreish. Really chewy and sweet!

    Choco-Fluffernutter bars!

This is VERY approximate indeed but:
    4 Heaped tablespoons Fluff
    2 Heaped tablespoons Peanut Butter
2-3 heaped tablespoons nutella (I used Tesco Value Hazelnut Spread)
2 tablespoons of butter (or er...I can't Believe its Not Butter Light in my case, contradiction much!!!)
80g Oats (I used Oat-So-Simple style sachets of instant porridge as we were given a load)
Enough Bran Flakes to be coated by the mixture

Pop in a lined tray, refridgerate, cut into sticky bars, eat! Eat some more, then hide it from yourself!

This sounds like a version of Rocky Road which you make with mini marshmallows (or chopped up big ones) and broken up digestives. Melt a bit of choocy and drizzle on top.

Ooh, think I'm going to go and ferret in the cupboards to see if I can make a version yum!

  • I use marshmallow fluff as a dip for fruit.

1/2 tub of philadelphia cheese or similar

    about 1/2 jar of m/f

mix together then dip fruits suich as strawberries and apples in it.

    very yummy and moreish.

We all know that traybakes are a mainstay of Norn Iron cuisine and my daughter is looking for the recipe of one to make for her friends in Germany. They take it in turns bringing in treats to work and she likes to bring something that reminds her of home. Fifteens and caramel squares have been very popular so far. She prefers that to buying something from a shop.

The one in particular she is trying to find is a peanut butter traybake. I think the base is made out of crushed biscuits and peanut butter with a toffee/peanut layer topped with chocolate and more nuts. Does anyone have the recipe?

This isn't quite what you're looking for, but for some strange reason I do like it - it is very simple! She could probably adapt it to look more like what she is thinking of. This was in a little book put together by the High School up the hill from me, many many years ago! (Sorry for the old units! LOL)

    PEANUT BROWNIES

    6oz crushed sweet biscuits (digestives)
    2oz margarine
    1oz caster sugar
    2 tbsp golden syrup
    4 tbsp crunchie peanut butter
    Packet of peanuts
    A bar of (Cooking) chocolate

    1. Melt the margarine, sugar and syrup over a low heat.
    2. Stir in the peanut butter and biscuits. Mix well.
    3. Press into a 8’’ square greased tin and leave to set.
    4. Melt the chocolate. Pour over the base. Press some peanuts into the chocolate before it cools

Thanks Sor, I'll pass that one on. I think the your recipe could be adapted by putting some Dulce de Leche or carnation caramel on top before the chocolate.

I've searched in old school, church and WI recipe books for the recipe but have only found peanut cookies but some other recipes I'd completely forgotten about :D

Ooo... that sounds like it might have to be experimented on!

Maybe we should have a thread for favourite traybake recipes (that time forgot...). Certainly cheaper than buying them!

(Note to self... really need to stop treating myself with sweet stuff and start exercising again!)

This is my favourite tray bake .

3 oz castor sugar, 3 oz butter or block magarine, 3 oz SR flour, 10 oz chopped dates, 4 oz chopped walnuts, 2 eggs, grated rind one lemon.

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs . Fold in flour, dates, walnuts and lemon rind.

Place in swiss roll tin-about 11 x 7 inches. Bake gas mark 5 for about 30 minutes.

Mix 1/4 cup castor sugar with the juice of a lemon and pour over cake as soon as you remove it from oven
