Aldi S/S Combination Microwave Oven £65

I have an LG combi microwave (love it us it loads) however the one thing it doesn't do well is grill. I don't know if this is true of all combi microwaves but of all my friends with them none of them use theirs for grilling as it just doesn't perform well. The other functions work perfectly and it saves time and fuel over using my big oven on my range cooker so for me it's excellent.
Hope this helps as I think that the badness of the grilling function may not be exclusive to this brand of combi microwave.0 -
Sharp combinations are one of the best you can get IMO.0

We've had a Panasonic combination microwave for yonks and really the only thing we use the grill for is frozen fish fingers which it does no problem. I've just checked our instruction book and it says the following:
Toast *** 4 slices *** Use GRILL 1 *** 4 - 6 mins *** Place on grill accessory on turntable. Turn halfway.
Grill 1 is the hottest of three settings and the grill accessory is like a metal plate on legs that sits on the turntable and keeps food about two to three inches from the grill, doubt it could hold four slices though.
It also says 'During cooking the Grill will cycle on and off so that food does not burn before it is cooked through in the centre'.
So you may need to check if you have different grill settings and if so try the hottest, and bear in mind that 'Toasting' is in effect burning the bread so if the grill is cycling to prevent burning it's obviously going to take that much longer.

Hi
Bit late I know, but noticed my local aldi still had some of these in stock today and I wondered if anyone knew whether I could have it built into a unit?
I'm having a new kitchen in a couple of months so could buy one and put it in storage if its going to save me a lot of money :-)0 -
Hi leoni,
No. I don't think it is suitable to build in. Firstly, when used as an oven it gets very hot around the sides. Secondly, when setting it up the instructions say allow 10cm gap around the sides and at least 30cm gap over the top. Hope this helps.Regards

That helps me completely, many thanks for that! :-) Shame though as it would have been a great moneysaving option.
Hey Plonky, you have no idea.... its an extension with a new bedroom, kitchen and most of the internal walls moved. To say im dreading it would be an understatement :-(0 -
There were still quite a few left when I went yesterday to Aldi in Kingston Crescent in Portsmouth. Don't need a microwave but even my nephew (my special BOGOF spotting machine) was commenting on how good they look and how cheap they were.
I have a Moulinex combi, tried it several times for grilling, no use. The element takes ages to go red, so no much use, plus uses up so much energy that it is much cheaper to grill in an oven.0 -

Sadly I do...have just endured many months of upheaval while a 2-storey side extension and a single storey rear extension was being built. You get fed up of people saying "It'll be lovely when it's done".
Good luck!0 -
The ovens are back in stock at Aldi in Portsmouth if anyone nearby missed out the first time around. Don't know if its just the Kingston Crescent shop or if this applies to other shops as well.0
