Now the DH is really excited - he has been concerned with how we are going to spend our evenings, but after looking at the menu he is planning on trying a couple of these drinks. May need to remind him that he will have to get up early the next morning :rotfl:

    Thanks for this Becky
(he is on google maps as we speak checking out the location)

Its a bit of trek - but I was staying on the westside so very handy for me - perhaps if you go up to the lincoln centre one day/evening you can wander up from there :D, there are loads of great places to eat nearby too

Oh and if you make it to the natural history museum - check out 'shake shack' round the back on 77th - I wasnt brave enough to try a 'concrete' but did have the most delicious cheesy fries :D

Thanks for all the info peeps, very helpful :) (and thanks for the congrats :D)

I'll definitely have a closer look at Chelsea :) thanks.
OH found a great deal online, £776 for flights and board-only hotel (The New Yorker, just across from Macys) 7 nights. Even better deal for us as OH's parents are paying £1000 towards the honeymoon, so we only need to find £276 plus spends :D
We're going in November, the deal is on Hayes & Jarvis website if anyone is interested.
I'm going in November too and booked the new yorker last week :D
I found a good deal on it using Travel Republic, worth comparing to the site you found it on just incase its any cheaper on Travel republic.

    Have a lovely honeymoon!!
New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.
No place in the world that can compare ♥ 2nd October 2010 ♥

We are going to get a metro card so hopefully we can master the subway and get ourselves up there - We are staying at the New Yorker, but hey its all about travelling around in New York. I have printed out an Idiots guide to the Subway courtesy of a nice person on trip advisor so hopefully it shouldn't be too hard

Cheesy fries sound good too, so I may just have to try Shake shack - have a small list of places to eat which wont break the bank and I have been checking out the menu pages to make sure that there is food on the menu which I would eat.

Just printed off my Yankees tickets after buying them on stub hub. Still need to get my broadway tickets and debating buying them through playbill or the ticket booths when I'm there. Has anyone had any experience with the ticket booths? I am looking at the Little Mermaid and can get seats in the Orchestra for an evening show at $79, but didn't know if I could get a similar priced ticket out there more in the centre - these ones are off to the side.

Certain evenings little mermaid orchestra seats are $69.

    Have a lookie lookie here:

    http://www.broadwaybox.com/shows/little_mermaid_nyc_tickets.aspx

used them before for our spamalot tickets and they were the cheapest I could find.

Subway is easy peasey Griggsy - just pick the A,C, B or D trains and head uptown on a local and get off at 81st and then head to the end of the platform where it says 77th street for the Shake Shack and walk round the back of the Museum - its just across the street :D

For the Dead Poet its the 1,2 or 3 and get off at 86th and Broadway I think and then head over one avenue and your pretty much there :D

We did get a few times where a train was local and became express past 56th Street though (despite saying local on the side) but if that happens just go back from 110th or 125th St on the other side :D

The thing I find annoying about the subway is there's no idea when the next train will be - they have electronic boards but they dont display the train times = completely pointless...oh and its filthy in comparison to London as well, but its perfectly safe :D

First bit of feedback, i'll try make it a bit better then for the Newark to Penn public transport run...

Not tonight though... over the weekend! :)
  • Markymoo, you are great and have been VERY helpful on this forum, but it has to be said, the New York City forum on Trip Advisor is brilliant. The experts are mainly New Yorkers who will help with any question and don't mind repeating themselves time and time again.

I find it hard to get much of a response from this forum to be honest, its always a case of 'look through the forum' but sometimes you just want a personal response, and to get engaged in a conversation, makes it a little clearer in your own head I think.

With regards flights and hotels, there's good info on here, but I would recommend anyone wanting lots of advice on all things New York to check Trip Advisor out, they're excellent.

Oops forgot about that. But then I did use your advice last year for my day trip into NYC from Newark so I think that I have redeemed myself. And my DH has bought me a nice big badge to wear for my birthday due to your remarks about locals and drinking. See we do listen to you :D
