The Mortgage Free in Three - Take 2 challenge (MFiT-T2)

meltdown after they put the kettle on!
That's the one. Not too bad on that one i think as i have an energy saving kettle that boils in seconds and only boil what we need. I did go and turn 3 (energy saving) lights off after it ended though.
I was thinking it might encourage me to turn the telly and computer off a bit, and perhaps move around a bit more with the kids instead of flicking the heating on. They never say they are cold but i feel it.
I could also bulk cook more to make better use of the oven and stop my tiddler opening the fridge door every two minutes.
I would say it is worth a watch for anyone who is interested in that sort of programme.0 -
Just phoned up for an up-to-date balance and it's slightly less than I'd originally declared :j (I've just sent the update via google docs)
Unfortunately, I'm also going to have to reduce my target from 30K to 20K(really don't know where I plucked the 30K figure from but it is totally unachievable unless we don't eat, drink, use the gas/electric, don't buy any clothes, go on any holidays, don't drive, etc, etc - you get the picture!!)
Anyway, I'm not despondentIf I could achieve a 20K reduction in my mortgage after 3 years I would be over the moon, thrilled to bits, chuffed as you like!! :j
I know the challenge doesn't officially start until 12/12/09 (in 9 days time!!), but now I've declared my figures, I feel like the challenge has already begun!!
This challenge is going to make such a difference to so many people and I for one can't thank Financial Bliss and Maz123 enough for the difference it's going to make to me and my family (if I can stick to the budget!!)
So, Good Luck to everyone!!!

Hi - I would like to join the challenge - I have just checked & my current balance is £181869 & I would like a target of £150000.
No idea how I am going to achieve it at the moment as we are just having major extension/renovation work finished on the house, so apart from normal capital repayment of approx £500 per month I think any extra money during the first year will be spent on paint, carpets etc.
But there is still year 2 & year 3 to go. Also if I don't make it challenging where would the fun be!
Just need to let DH know we are on a mission for the next 3 years.
Thanks to every one else for your inspiring stories they have really spurred me on to do thisDeclutter 2023 110/520

Hi FB,
I was looking on the first page and I noticed that my objective is incorrect.
Since my overpaying this year has gone better than I expected, my starting point on 12/12/09 will be approximately £82,000.
I would like my objective to be :-
Reduce mortgage from £82,000 to £32,000, which is a reduction of £50,000.
Only a week to go now.0 -

Just what I was thinking!
I really must get a signature sorted out by next week as it seems a good way to keep the goal in mind...:T:j :TMFiT-T2 No.120|Challenge started 12.12.09|MFD 12.12.12 :j:T:j0 -
This feels very auspicious. surfing through MSE for the first time in about 6 months. Feel a pang of needing to switch that light bulb back on AND as 12 Dec is my birthday it feels so good to be joining this challenge . I am not sure what the target will be yet but the concept is fab. Dramatic decrease in our mortgage sounds good. We overpay by £200 pm anyway (basically we're on a good tracker and put the stuff we would have paid if BOE interest rates were more than 0.5%) but it'd be good to increase that and also build up a decent nest egg for contingencies. Good luck all...MFiT-T4 Member No. 96 - 2022 is my MF goal

Hi, not posted on here for a while. Can't believe how mnay have joined since (I am number 18). My start figure is a little out- I've updated via googledocs. Start is now approx £80,000. Target is to reduce my net mortgage to £40,000 by the end of the challenge. I have an offset mortgage so some of my money is in savings offsetting the mortgage hence the net mortgage terminology...0

I have updated my total for the challenge via the form - £95,223.87

I've updated via Googledocs as well - start figure is a net mortgage of £128,114 and I'm hoping to reduce that by £40,000 to £88,114 (*gulp*)
Good luck everyone!
