First mortgage payment of 2012 came out today bringing our mortgage balance down to £11,240. We are looking forward to breaking through the 10k milestone next month.
Cant believe how quickly 2011 flew by, this is our final year and the end is in sight! :cool:5/10/12 : Mortgage Free0 -

Not posted for absolutely ages, but wanted to update you all - paid off the last of the mortgage on 9th December 2011 :j
Managed to do this by selling house (which was in a very expensive part of the Kent coast) and buying somewhere much much cheaper further along the Kent coast!
Fairly drastic way of doing it but also managed to go from a small 2 bed bungie to a whopping great 3 bed victorian terrace, so very happy all round
Never thought it would happen, but well worth all the sacrifices! :j

Great news MSS! Well done.
Haven't been here for a while but currently sitting at £189509.83 which includes our overpayment pot of 12,721.00. Have moved my ISA out into this as the MSE calculator showed me this was better use of the cash to instead put against the mortgage. OH will do same when he gets a replacement passbook ...grr.
Have updated signature but planning to keep on straight and narrow this year. We have to. Since going part time and losing my bonuses have been living in la la land and that can't continue..
Will update spreadie shortly FB and then at least it's there even tho I once again missed the due date.
Well done all for the progress being made!

#49 reporting good news:
Technically I have achieved my challenge today! At the start of this challenge I hoped to pay off our Further Advance of £15373 by 12/12/12 but as of today 11/01/12 the account is closed - YIPPEE!
Now my other challenge (#50) starts in earnest - to get our main mortgage down to £99999 by 12/12/12. Three years ago I would not have been able to contemplate being in this position now so I am really pleased with the progress I've made and really grateful for the support on here.
Cheers everyone (and thanks to FB and Maz)

The weekend will hold further DIY challenges for me, alongside entertaining and feeding the kids, as Project Kitchen is taking shape. I'm enjoying the changes I'm making to the house, which is good as it'll be my hobby for a good few years yet! Good for balancing mortgage-free-ness with making it the house we want, too.Mortgage Free thanks to ill-health retirement0
