I think you the one making a fool of yourself,

I will make it simple for you; If you want to restrict what replies you get, dont post on a public forum. simple enough?

    so to summerize;

MY girlfriend WAS cleaning the glass door

HER pinky WENT through the pane

    SHE damaged tendons

After some physio SHE IS OK

I WANT HER to go and see citizen's advice or a solicitor for DAMAGES

like i say, come back and tell us how much you "win".
 Give yourself a pat on the back. Just so i know whether your advice is valid or you are worth listening to, could you tell me a bit about your background and what qualifies you to give me any advice on this subject? Thanks

True. But why would you just make stuff up by commenting on things you know absolutely nothing about, it just seems a very strange thing to do. That is all

How large was the pane of glass that got broken?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

What i do know is what you posted in your OP, do you expect me to know more? On the strength of what you have posted to the public you got some replies, some you like, some you dont. So I dont know why you feel this is strange.

not quiet sure what you think i have "made up", I have added afew analogies in an attempt to highlight how you appear to absolve your girlfiend of any responsibility for the accident. I however feel it is highly likely she contibuted to it therfore making it (imo) an "accident".

you posted " Obviously, there was a crack or something in the pane."
And i replyed to say i dont see you being able to prove this statement successfully. Pictures maybe?

You also say your girlfriend "is ok", that your "landlord apologised" and fixed the damage quickly but that you want to "claim damages" from him.

So all in all, 1. I dont think you could make a succesful claim and 2. I dont think its anything other than an attempt to profit from an accident at your landlords expense, much akin to ambulance chasing.

But do you agree? it doesn't matter, Its my opinion. When you post on a public forum you should expect opinions you dont agree with. I do.

so proceed with it how you want, at least you know that some people will view it negatively.

Hi all. My girlfriend was cleaning the glass door (connecting living room to kitchen) in our rented house. One of the panes shattered and her pinky went through the pane. She damaged tendons and had stitches. After some physio she is ok just a wee bit scarred and the finger is a bit bent i think she was very lucky! My question is i think the panes should have been toughened safety glass and i want her to go and see citizen's advice or a solicitor for damages. Anyone have any advice? Cheers

If you have house contents insurance, check and see if you have legal cover (sometimes called family cover). The insurers will check if you have a case and if you have, they will get you a specialist solicitor, with usually you paying just the cost of your excess on your policy.

If you haven't got insurance, then you could try contacting one of the no win no fees solicitors and see if they think you have a case.
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.
Read the sticky on the House Buying, Renting & Selling board.

  • You also say your girlfriend "is ok",.

He said his girlfriend had tendon damage and that her finger is a bit bent, which is what often happens when there is tendon damage as the tendon is shortened.

It was an accident, and I'm not sure how compensation will help. It's only a few stitches and a slightly bent little finger!

The hinged loft hatch in one house I rented swung down after the catch decided to fail, and hit me in the back of the head, splitting my head open. It hurt, there was lots of blood, and I have a little scar on my head. But it was an ACCIDENT!

I think it would be wrong to claim compensation for something so minor that was merely an accident. Compensation should be for the likes of soldiers at war who have lost a leg in a land mine, or someone who got run over by a drunk driver and left paralysed.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
