Sorry to hear about your girlfriend's accident, but it seems strange that she managed to shatter a pane of glass when cleaning it?

I've got to say this 'find someone to sue' attitude is also something unpleasant. You said 'pinky' are you American by any chance?
Obviously, there was a crack or something in the pane. It's not a matter of finding 'someone to sue', i have never sued anyone in my life. I pay a lot of rent and council tax to live where i do and i expect to live somewhere safe. No, not american. 'she injured her little finger' is that better? Strange post but thanks anyway

Not sure why you are laughing. Its a very sensible question. Your tenancy agreement is likely to include a clause that you indemnify your Landlord against any claims.

    Thanks
I laughed at the notion of my girlfriend suing me.
It doesn't contain anything of the sort, that's why i asked for some advice. Cheers

Why do you think you would be entitled to anything simply because your girlfriend injured herself on some glass??

If this comes across as something that was not your intention then please excuse me, but it appears like you are trying to see if you can claim for what appears to be a simple accident.

The landlord is not under any obligation to replace the glass or have had it fitted with toughened glas etc - this is not a requirement of building regs, planning permission or any other type of regulation. Be more careful in future
See my replies above. This is why i asked and you have given me the information i asked for about the regulations. Thanks for the patronising advice also, i will tell my girlfriend to check every pane of glass, inch by inch, if she fancies cleaning again. Ta

Just a point - you would have to pay council tax regardless of where you live. It doesnt make any difference to this situation. Re the rent - your landlord is only under obligation to make sure that your house is a safe place to live in regards to roof gas and electric issues.

And here is where it all comes to an end.
It is not obvious their was a crack and you wont be able to prove it. If there was a crack why didnt you notify your landlord? And her finger being in contact with the glass cannot be claimed to be irrelevent.

not in a million years mate, thankfully!

If her finger went through toilet paper would you sue Andrex? I Wouldent want to be their when that letter arrives. why? cos !!!!!! happens,

File it under accident which it most obviously is.

Thanks for your post but (with all due respect) because of your bias i would rather not hear anymore. Thanks

I dont know it there was a crack that's why i said 'or something'. If i had noticed a crack i would have mentioned it. It was an assumption based on the fact that it is highly unusual to glass just to shatter. Could you explain what the part i highlighted in bold means as it isn't very clear. As for the Andrex comment, i have never known toilet paper to cause tendon damage:confused: so stop being silly. Cheers

    Bias??
How do you figure that one?
I am neither a landlord not your letting agent although even if i were a letting agent it wouldnt matter as the responsibility wouldnt fall to me.

I have simply given you the facts - you are not entitled to make a claim for an accident. This is a forum whereby you asked for advice and it was given to you - unfortunately that does not mean you have the right to decide who gives you that advise or who can post on here.

I hope your girlfriend is not permanently injured of course, however, as stated above, you do not have the right to a claim.

  • quiet happy to explain,

The day we go round using inanimate objects and start to think they are somehow to blame for us not being careful is a sad day.

She went to clean the glass, the glass broke. was it her fault of the glass's, well only one of them was moving and it didnt break itself. its an accident, and you cant prove otherwise.

You will immediatly get peoples backs up by wanting to claim compensation, its pretty pathetic in alot of peoples eyes and just shows you accept no responsibility for your own actions.

There are valid reasons to claim compensation but i dont think this is remotely close, no other party was involved here, so why is anyone to blame?

maybe you can get legal aid too!

off to walk round the house with my eyes shut, see you in marbella!

ps, i will be the one on the big new yacht

Your sig. alerted me to something. I did get some advice and i was thankfull for that but i do not wish to be patronised and i was quite polite and respectful in my comments to you. If you had simply given me advice that would have be fine. But you didn't, hence my response.
