    hi

I dont own and iron or ironing board... i buys M+S no crease school uniform for the kids, we don't tumble either so everything comes out of machine as soon as it finishes and either shook and hung on line carefully to pull out creases or hung on airer in winter ...

If i buy new clothes i buy ones that will hand on without creasing... i am looking for a dress for a wedding in the summer and am searching for one of those that are supposed to look crinkly ;)

not much help i suppose if you have smart office clothes that have to be ironed - but surely they cant take 2 hours? nothing else needs ironing in my opinion towels, sheets etc just get put away ...

  • I wear my work shirts 2 times before they are washed and ironed. I too hate ironing

Skirts/ Trousers when they look/ feel dirty. Just hang them back when come home from work

I don't sweat much so that helps and I shower everyday and underwear gets washed after every use and don't iron them

I don't iron sheets/ towels etc unless someone is staying over. Life is too short

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.
  • Some people do and hankies! People tend to send them to me to iron them for them though.

I do sadly own a iron considering I run a ironing service. I spend hours upon hours at my ironing board ironing peoples clothes. I don't particularly enjoy it but it's not bad money and I can have the tv on or radio.

We do find that if you use fabric conditioner that clothes do come out alot easier to iron or hardly need ironing. Where as if you don't use fabric conditioner it makes it alot harder.

Put a double layer of tin foil under your ironing board cover this will bounce back the heat ironing the other side.

Get a steam generator iron off ebay they cut the time atleast by half!

Or you can always send it to an ironing service, but however do make sure that they are fully insured for damage or loss, ask them if they smoke or have pets tell them if you smoke particularly as we have a different board for people who smoke. Ask if you have to send your own hangers, would they like it in a bin bag or basket and what is their turn around.

After I get mine out of the tumble dryer I smooth them over quickly with my hand, then pop them straight on a coat hanger. The creases sometimes drop out & they're not as creased as if I'd folded them & put them in the ironing basket. Also I try to buy stuff that don't need ironing. Failing that I iron as I could never ever wear creased stuff.

I did once see someone iron just the front of their shirt rather than all of it. I suppose if you wear a suit & you don't plan on taking the jacket off then that's ok. Just thinking by the time you do everything that people have advised it may be quicker to iron.

In years gone by, I used to iron everything, :o rather daft really and I'll never know how I found the time then.

Now, I iron some of my tops which look as if they need it, going out trousers and jeans.

Thats about it, although I do like ironing, I usually do it whilst watching TV and a glass of something helps :D

I don't worry how full the machine is but I try to empty it as soon as it has finished. I reduce the spin - down to 800 - as this seems to help - clothes aren't so dry and creased.

Then I give everything a really good shake and brush out any further creases with my hand. Next (this is the sad bit) I try to work out which way the wind is blowing and peg everything facing into the wind. I peg tops by the shoulders, and trousers by by the back waistband so the wind blows into the clothes. Sometimes I get it wrong and run back outside and reverse everything :o!! I find the wind blows out a lot of the creases.

I don't bother to iron, especially as kids just throw their clothes on a)floor, b) in the wardrobe/drawer or c) in the dirty-clothes basket for me to wash dry and put away, as this is far easier than them just putting away. DH did this once after a business trip. Opened his case straight into the basket:eek: even though he hadn't worn most of it.
