Are you SURE these are coming from paypal and are not phishing scams? I get loads of these each day and they are all rubbish.0

This is true - does it look like an official paypal email?jackbremer wrote:Are you SURE these are coming from paypal and are not phishing scams? I get loads of these each day and they are all rubbish.0 -
I have just had this email too, straight after I paid using paypal (funds that were in my paypal account).
The email said

PROTECT YOUR PASSWORD
NEVER give your password to anyone, including PayPal employees. Protect yourself against fraudulent websites by opening a new web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer or Netscape) and typing in the PayPal URL every time you log in to your account.
Which is the address I have on file anyway, when I double checked my paypal account I only have one address on file. Weird, I think that they have bugs in their system.
Kind of makes you wonder doesn't it?

EDIT - at the beginning of email, it also says my full name.Brassic!0 -
Phishing ones normally have a link you should(nt) click to 'correct' whatever 'error' they are pointing out. The latest Paypal ones are "Account Suspended" or "Account Limited" due to attempted access by a foreign IP address. I trash them anyway as I don't have a Paypal account...
ps - just seen your edit - phishing emails are normally addressed to "Paypal Customer" or similar - if they have your name, they normally have your account.0 -
The spammers/phishers tend to send them to their harvested list of millions of email addresses because some of the people there are going to have a paypal account and some of these people are going to believe what the email says.ManAtHome wrote:Phishing ones normally have a link you should(nt) click to 'correct' whatever 'error' they are pointing out. So far this morning, in the space of 20 minutes, I have received 5 emails from paypal, all saying the same thing.
I am going to try emailing them and find out what is going on.
I have, just to be on the safe side, also changed my paypal and ebay paswords.
Any ideas?
I had EXACTLY THE SAME THING HAPPEN TO ME !!!!!!
Think it must`ve been having a funny 5 minutes, changed my password just to be on the safe side.Debt Free Jan 2010!(Be happy) the state of your life is nothing more than the state of your mind! X:j0 -
I had exactly the same email yesterday as soon as I had payed for an Ebay item.
Think I will forward it to PayPal. Looks like an error on there side to me.0 -
happened to me too, i tried to pay for an item by paypal yesterday and was told they were having problems and i would have to come back later.
have now paid and received the added new address emails - with my address as the new address.
some humungous glitch in their system no doubt.Ready to Go Go!0 -
Although the emails sound like they are coming from something faulty at PayPal's end, here's what I suggest everyone receiving the email does:
- Log in to your PayPal and eBay accounts and change your password, but make sure you change it to something strong - i.e. At least 8 characters, something that contains at least one number and one symbol. Make sure it isn't a dictionary word. Use random case and make sure you include an equal amount of capital and lower case letters.
- DO NOT follow any links in the email - log in to your PayPal and eBay accounts by going to the official PayPal and eBay sites.
- Once you are happy your accounts are secure, forward the email to spoof@paypal.com or spoof@ebay.com if it is related to your eBay account - don't include your PayPal or eBay account user names unless asked by PayPal to provide them, and never give out your password.
- If you believe someone has gained access to your account and it isn't just a problem at PayPal's end, contact PayPal customer support in the Help section of their site.
