I think I also saved myself a £10 fee as I rang O2 to port my # rather than use the paid for service from mobileshop :j
If I were you I would go back and check and if necessary return the phone in the cooling off period - I understand that, unlike other providers, you are supposed to port your number to o2 when you sign up for the contract (as indicated on the Mobileshop.com website). If you require your existing mobile number to be ported onto your new contract, you must inform us at point of purchase stating your existing mobile phone number and PAC code (this can be obtained by contacting your current network provider). We will despatch your new mobile phone and sim card as normal along with starting the porting process for you.
Your existing number will then be ported and made live on your new sim card in approximately 7 to 10 working days of receipt of your new mobile. We will advise your of the expected "porting date". We charge a non-refundable administration fee of £10.00 for number ports to the Vodafone and O2 networks. This is on top of any administration charge which maybe levied by your current network provider.
If you do not do so, the phone number on your contract with Mobileshop.com and the number on your phone will not have the same number - they could therefore not pay out on your cashback (whereas if you did this with Mobileshop.com it would be on their records). Go back and check with Mobileshop - it may be okay (in which case, I wasted £10! Well not really, biugh through quidco.com which gave £25, therefore still £15 "profit"), or alternatively you will have chance to return it during the 14 day cooling off period.

Just got an email confirmation from Mobileshop.com saying that if I was to port the number after ordering, just make sure that both numbers are on the first cashback voucher I send in.0

Given the commentary on this board about cashbacks and companies wriggling out of paying up (I am not suggesting that Mobileshop.com are one of them - they seem to get good comments), I would suggest anyone porting after sign up should get it confirmed by email as you have done - that way you have something in writing which you can send along with your cashback claim.
Incidentally, does anyone know why it would cost £10 to port to o2 but the other networks are processed free (particularly as it is using the same system, as I understand it)?

MrGreen wrote:O2 and Vodafone require you to port your number at the start of your contract, so I assume the £10 is mobileshop's fee for extra work, where as Three, Orange and T-mobile allow you to port later.
Also, as BoltonMinx and wadge stated above, you appear to be able to transfer yourself which doesn't appear to be mentioned on the Mobileshop.com site?

If you ported from TMobile to Orange Mobileshop ask you to contact Orange directly after you have ordered your phone
"Transferring your number to Orange
If you require your existing mobile number to be ported onto your new contract, simply contact your existing supplier to obtain your PAC code. Then order your handset as normal from ourselves which will be connected with a 'temporary number' on Orange.
Upon receipt of your new handset, you must contact Orange directly
(number given below) quoting your 'temporary number' along with the number you wish to port across (your existing number) and your PAC code.
Orange - 0870 870 8888.
Your existing number will then be transferred within 5 to 7 working days.
Please Note: We cannot transfer Orange Pay As You Go to Orange contract and these cannot be transferred afterwards."
Whereas it is different when connecting to O2 or Vodafone I don't really know the reason why, it's probably the network asking them to do it this way

Thanks for the warning, have emailed them. It's not the end of the world if I don't have my number ported, it's just so easy to remember  I'll see what they say about the porting and hopefully have some proof in writing. Still havent got the darn phone as there was no-one home, cant wait to pick it up tommorow :j"There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children; one of these is roots, the other wings" - Hodding Carter

Don't forget that as you have a contract now, you could get extra money by 'recommending a friend'. I took a contract out with DialaPhone for the ex, £4.99pm for 12 months, so £60pa. Minus £40 for a work deal, minus £10 for buying online, minus £20 for recommend a friend as stepdad was with them. Thats a profit of £10. I sold the phone for £130, profit is now £140 and recommended 6 other people @ £20 each. So I actually made £260 on that contract.0
