How does this "2 keys ok can make a 3rd", "1 key can't copy" machine work? It makes no sense to me.

Another reason not to buy Ford by the sounds of it.

I thought it was an excellent system helping to avoid the expensive cost of needing a garage to reporgram any new keys to work with the Ford immobiliser and any new remote central locking key. How do the other car manufacturers make their programming of new keys to work with the immobiliser/central locking with only 1 car key work?
  • It all makes sense to me. But anyway, dealerships are well know for ripping customers off, not just Ford.

You haven't explained why with 2 keys you can simply have another made...and with 1 key you need all this communicating with the car business.

It makes no sense to me either. Why does it matter how many keys you start off with?
How does having 2 keys already avoid the need to reprogram the 3rd?
  • Oops...iv Only Got One Key And Its One Of Those Funny Plastic Things...must Have The Key Up The Middle.would I Have To Go To The Dealer?
  • Was the xtra key you bought programmed for £11? I've just spoke to the dealership, and it's gonna cost me £140 cause I only have one key.
Yes, they programmed it for £11 cos I still had my 2 original keys. My friend is paying about £140 for hers as she only has one key like you-hense I leaned from her experience.

The third is programmed as it is newly cut. Therefore it is not REPROGRAMMED. You have to have 2 proggrammed keys to enable this-sorry but I dont know why that is.

Do they though??? Anyone on here able to verify that? I would have thought it may be the case for other makes also.

I am picking up a replacement key this weekend as one of mine has started eating batteries and the dealer has ordered a replacement under the warranty. They have asked me to bring both the keys in so they can reprogramme the new one and the old one, no doubt the faulty one will be going back to SEAT. The key fob is almost impossible to open and they charged over £3 to supply a battery I can get for £1 on the market.
