I got a new PC just before Christmas, with Windows Media Player 9 installed. I just got a pop to upgrade to version 10 which I have now done.
My understanding ( and what I can read in help files) is that version 10 should convert these fles to MP3. Is that correct?
I am still getting the following error and was wondering if someone could point to the error of my ways - heres the message:
"Windows Media Player cannot rip the track because a compatible MP3 encoder is not installed on your computer. Install a compatible MP3 encoder or choose a different format to rip to (such as Windows Media Audio)."
Does this make any sense, Help about does say version 10

I have been using that, but my free trial runs out in 4 days, so I thought I'd investigate the free one first.
I can't rememebr what I need to pay for the dbpoweramp one.
How do you get it as free?
Wonderfullife - from your link " ** mp3 encoder on 30 day trial license"0 -
I think Windows Media Player is great myself.
Otherwise just download an encoder from https://www.download.com (most of them are free).
I used to use Easy CDDA extractorCraig Mallaby

Hi
Sorry don't know much about wmp, but I'm sure you should be able to convert to mp3 with it, if you have roxio or nero you can convert with these as well.
Just looked on Microsoft website and it says
Can I rip music from my CDs and convert the music into MP3 format?
Yes, if you upgrade to Windows Media Player 10, so don't know whats happened to yours.
Hope this helps0 -
Hi
Just had a look at WMP, Go to Tools, Options, Rip Music, Change Format to MP3, you can also decide what quality you want, and move bar accordingly and don't forget to click Apply.
Should work now, hopefully0
